The Super Mario Bros. Movie – Almost Ready For Approval

It’s-a me! Laura! Happy Mario Day, Nintendo nerds [47] [48] [93]! Much to my delight, we get to see the third trailer for The Super Mario Bros. before its release next month [35] [62]. Once again, Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri hosted the premiere of the new trailer together, along with Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Seth Rogan, Keegan-Michael Key, Jack Black and Anya Taylor-Joy [35]. Without a doubt, I am excited to see the film at a cinema as I have been a fan of the Super Mario franchise for as long as I can remember [60]. Previously, we purred at the reveal of Mario’s catsuit in a small expansion of his duel with Donkey Kong [36]. This time, there is some more to discuss regarding The Super Mario Bros. Movie in honour of this year’s Mario Day [35] [62]. Moreover, let us proceed to analyse its third and final trailer at the time of Birdo finally becoming a playable character in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe [88] [99] [100], some more adventures in Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios [19], the reveal of a new LEGO Mario product based on the ghastly and tyrannical legacy of Dry Bowser and the pre-ordering of the new yellow iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus [4] [20] [24] [49].

But first, a special thanks to Didier Agani for presenting the upcoming LEGO Dry Bowser castle during its reveal [48]! [49]

I recall noticing a goof when watching a certain infamous animation produced by Tom Hinchliffe and Don Greger, which was the moment when an out-of-character Mario angrily murmured “Twenty-three years of jumping barrels…”, but the line was meant to be “Thirty-three years of jumping barrels…” [31] [53]. I believe that my critical analysing of Super Mario content has progressed since that moment. And now, on with the analysis! [78]

Firstly, anything to say about Player 2? It turns out that he will be the damsel-in-distress in contrast to Mario Is Missing and Luigi’s Mansion [8] [32], being locked in a cage dangling above a lava pit [35] [62]. Despite this, there could be some courageousness in his survival after his separation from Mario as hinted in the first trailer [104] [105]. It could take place before his captivity. Thankfully, neither plumber is wearing a tie in their re-established origins [29] [67] [90]. Could a sequel to the film primarily focus on adapting aspects of the Luigi’s Mansion games, much to Day’s interest without making the same mistakes Cars 2 made [8] [9] [10] [11] [78]? As a result, Professor E. Gadd would make an appearance in the sequel. Quite similarly, the same efforts ought to apply to Toy Story 5, even though Toy Story 4 still had its compelling moments that led to mostly positive reception, such as the engaging self-empowerment of Bo [28] [33] [89]. As for Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, some progression awaits him outside of SMBPlumbing.com and I do not doubt that he ought to face his fears after being captured by a few Shy Guys as hinted in one of the posters [34] [75] [78].

Especially after his captivity in Bowser’s castle, this Luigi’s potential in the film could even stare into our souls [6]! What could be next? A new Chuck E. Cheese character named “Charlie” who is basically Chuck’s cousin and speaks in an Australian accent [5] [12] [70]? [35] [62]

The way Bowser is voiced by Jack Black who hilariously tried to “cancel Mario Day in favour of Bowser Day” next to Anya Taylor-Joy is starting to remind me of that bizarre, obscure, and rather controversial television show known as “King Koopa’s Kool Kartoons” that aired back in 1989 [27] [35] [62] [66] [76] [86]. Nonetheless, I can see Bowser’s villainy in The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be nowhere as unnerving (and corny) as the live-action adaption of King Koopa. Besides, his antagonistic nature really stood out when he announces his determination to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom [35] [62]. But wait a minute! How the heck could he NOT know what the Spinys are? As previously mentioned in our analysis of the second trailer [97] [98], I am impressed at Black’s performance in the role of Bowser. Even though one of his captives will be Luigi [35] [62], leading to Mario’s character development, I still wonder if Bowser will still plan to kidnap Princess Peach later in the film. I am still curious to see if Bowser Jr. will also make an appearance in the film at some point or in a sequel. Wouldn’t it be weirdly epic if Bowser challenged Po from the Kung Fu Panda franchise to a showdown [44]?

As a little weird King Koopa’s Kool Kartoons was and how uneasy its production was at times [87], its theme song was at least quite catchy [66]. Could Black care to do his own cover sometime? Can you imagine his voicing the king-sized LEGO sculpture of Bowser [49]? I sure can! [35] [62]

Wouldn’t it be more fitting for Chris Pratt to voice LEGO Mario, also known as “Mariobob Plumberpants” by yours truly…or should that honour go to Tom Kenny [72] [81] [82] [96]? Mario’s determination to rescue and reunite with Luigi will lead to him becoming the rightful hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. But before that, it will be quite interesting to see his humble beginnings as a plumber in Brooklyn as shown in the second trailer [34] [97] [98]. The tenseness of what can technically be described as “his first Rainbow Road race” in the third trailer is undeniable since we know that the film is a re-established origin of the Mario brothers [97] [98] [104] [205]. Can you imagine if the film was actually going to be a musical [78]? There would have been an introductory song about a plumbing business in Brooklyn and a finale song about Mario becoming the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom after rescuing Luigi [34]. Before such a noble goal can be accomplished, there will be an alliance that I honestly did not expect to witness after analysing the second trailer [97] [98]. Quite thankfully, there will be no need to check out an enclosed instructions book or toast a lot of sourpuss bread in a hotel that has a ton of toasters [80].

It is remarkable how there will be a race across Rainbow Road, especially how Mario survives its hazardousness in his re-established origin. Could a sequel feature notable elements of the Mario Party series, as long as you all understand that piracy is no party [38] [43]? [35] [62]

I was quite bewildered to see Donkey Kong grab a fire flower and become a newly established Fire Donkey Kong whilst Mario grabs a red mushroom and becomes bigger as they appear to be in a partnership that must be a sign of them calling a truce after a duel in the stadium [35] [61] [62]. Could the awesomely designed Fire Donkey Kong be the next playable character in a tour in Mario Kart Tour for promoting The Super Mario Bros. Movie [99] [100]? As something that has never happened in the Super Mario franchise before, it is enlightening to see. No pun intended. Aside from Cranky Kong [78], some other fellow kongs have been hinted to appear in the film as well, including:

•       Funky Kong [78]
•       Chunky Kong [78]
•       Dixie Kong [78]
•       Diddy Kong [78]
•       Kiddy Kong [78]
•       Swanky Kong [78]

I wonder if Donkey Kong’s motivations after his duel in the film could have something to do with Bowser’s tyranny, which would make his role more as a frenemy effective. I still believe he could have a backstory involving Pauline as a reference to the events of Donkey Kong[53]. Voiced by Seth Rogan [35], Donkey Kong could leave some impact on those who will watch the film and consider themselves big fans of the Donkey Kong games [53].

Fire Donkey Kong is so cool! Or could “cool” be the wrong word to describe such a concept? Who knows how well Donkey Kong World will do with the sudden cooperation of Banjo and Kazooie? [85] And who knows how effective the iconic ape’s character progression will be in The Super Mario Bros. Movie? A moment of them work together in the third trailer is quite a coincidence as it has been revealed by Mariobob Plumberpants, also known as “LEGO Mario” will be compatible with a new Donkey Kong accessory this Summer [49]. [35] [62]

Here is a shout-out to my homegirl Princess Peach after the celebration of International Women’s Day [52] [92]. As much as I hope for Pauline to become one of the next DLC racers for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe later this year [88], I would be delighted to see some steady romance blooming between the Illumination Entertainment incarnations of Mario and Peach [56] [60]. Moreover, it is quite refreshing to hear that the princess would be an ally within a plumber’s adventure in the film instead of the usual damsel-in-distress in the main games [56] [57] [59], even though I know that it has been done before [58]. It could be a sign of the film wanting to follow this generation’s encouraging standards of empowering women in media. However, would the princess like to take a good cheeseburger from the kitchen in Bowser’s Castle to go after she suddenly becomes a captive at some point in the film or its sequel [84]? Hopefully, the chef will not waste time by letting her know what the specials are before that [23]. Aside from Princess Peach being Mario’s mentor, I believe that there could be some cake for Mario after the great mission to reunite with Luigi [19] [74] [75].

Both Princess Peach cake recipes from Super Nintendo World in Osaka and Super Nintendo World in California look so sweet and tasty [19] [74] [75]. Speaking of sweet, I do not doubt that this Peach will be tender-hearted and ladylike outside of her leadership in the castle. [35] [62]

Any new minor characters? The first one to appear is what appears to be a teal Luma who appears to be absolutely adorable…but has a rather kooky attitude, thus vaguely reminding me of the yellow star from The LEGO MOVIE 2: The Second Part [82]. The penguin king may not have much of an impact on the plot aside from confronting Bowser as shown in the first trailer [104] [105], his voice still sounds epic. I feel bad for the Spinys not being recognised by Bowser during the gathering of his minions. No Despicable Me reference intended [16] [17] [18] [50]. Nonetheless, I understand that it is meant to be an example of humour in the film. A few Hammer Bros. are competitors in the race through Rainbow Road as part of an ambush, which could also be featured in a new tour in Mario Kart Tour for promoting the film, leading to the app getting…a little less backlash [99] [100]? The number of enemies from the games and Toads in the Mushroom Kingdom being put into the film is insane, which elevates its faithfulness to the games even higher and shows the prime ambition from animating so many yellow pill-shaped comic reliefs in the Despicable Me franchise in a different light [16] [17] [18] [50].

Cute, but sadistic. I must have encountered that combination before [25]. [35] [62]

While Donkey Kong Country was animated with motion capture but ended up looking weirdly bizarre [26], the animation in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is swell, looking like a huge step up from Despicable Me. Just look at the shine of the standard kart from Mario Kart 8 [54]! The racing scene across Rainbow Road looks absolutely spectacular with fast-paced action, most notably the launching of a green koopa shell and two bullet bills that seem to provide a difference between the film and the Mario Kart games beside Peach wearing a helmet when she steers a bike [54] [55]. As previously mentioned, the design of Fire Donkey Kong consists of reddish-brown fur all over his body with white fur resembling flames around his wrists and at the top of his head and is rather enlightening [35] [62]. Again, no pun intended. A newly revealed location appears to be a factory where karts and bikes are produced for races. It may be a little strange to see the iconic red carpet at the Oscars be the colour of champagne instead this year [1], but you can tell the visuals are a big upgrade, as stated by Michael Jelenic, one of the film’s directors [35].

The field of fire flowers looks enchanting, glowing in the night of determination. Yes, I am the authoress of two novellas and I like to write like that [101]! [35] [62]

There are quite a lot of notable details to point out, such as the sand blowing in the breeze in a desert-like location, the aura of a kamek’s wand and the lighting in where many vehicles are produced [35]. [62]

The Super Mario Bros. Movie might just be one of Nintendo’s biggest highlights of 2023 after its release this April [35] [62] [78]. Speaking of huge highlights in 2023, there will be a new anime adventure for Poké players…but without Ash Ketchum [94] [95]. I will also look forward to the fourth, fifth and sixth episodes of the second season of Helluva Boss after witnessing the introduction of Moxxie’s father and possibly his ex-boyfriend this weekend [36] [102] [103]. My fiancé and I will also look forward to the second season of Sonic Prime on Netflix [68]. Speaking of quirky hedgehogs like Mr. Sonic, would Irish the Hedgehog like a green grilled cheese sandwich that will hopefully not stink this Saint Patrick’s Day [14] [22] [83]? As curious as I am about how the other five new racers will be in the last two waves of DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I could be bewildered at the likely brilliance of the animated film based on the Super Mario franchise. I am also sure that many LEGO lovers will love the new Dry Bowser castle this August [49]. As for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, its third and final trailer is pretty much the final ingredient for the potential cake that was gradually baked for you all [35] [62]. Yours truly, Laura Williams. Amy [57].

Even to this day, adults who fondly remember the retro Super Mario games can look forward to the film. Speaking of nostalgia, perhaps there could be a grown-ups’ section where small portions of alcohol can be served without seeming out-of-place and adults can relax and watch a sports game on a large television set or play some retro arcade games in many Chuck E. Cheese locations in the future [71], even after its risk of complete bankruptcy in 2020 [42] [63]. Fun for all friends, for the win [13]! [75]

I also hope that Sam-I-Am would like some green eggs (and ham) on Saint Patrick’s Day [21] [30]. Even though some recent toxicity on Twitter has caused me despair [3] [39] [45] [46] [51] [64], quite like the hatred and misrepresentation aimed at me on social media last year [2] [40] [41], I am thankful for those whose words truly matter [64] [79]. Moreover, without being labelled as a “social justice warrior” or a “clown” [3] [86], I will keep going my own way, hopefully without being a target of ridicule and bigotry [39] [45] [46] [51] [91].
