MordeTwi – A Wish That Could Be Used Right Now

Do you miss how life was in the early 2010s? Well, this viral sensation could be for you. I know that it is most certainly for me since I used to watch Regular Show when I was a teenager and I will miss the fourth generation of the My Little Pony franchise dearly after the official establishment of the fifth generation [26] [27]. Who would have thought Mordecai from Regular Show and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic would once again be a remarkable crossover pairing, in spite of Regular Show ending back in 2017 and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ending in 2019 [12] [22]? The very moment of them yearning to be together that originated on DeviantArt back in 2012 has regained relevance and won the hearts of so many fans of Western animation [6]. You must be wondering what the artist will think of their old artwork suddenly becoming a trend nine years later. If I was the artist, I would be bewildered, but flattered and honoured. Without further ado, let us see why a blue jay and a magical unicorn could really use a wish from an aeroplane that is like a shooting star [24].

As a pegasister, I will always remember the outstanding impact Friendship Is Magic had on the 2010s in terms of internet culture. [10]

MordeTwi has my nomination for “Best Love Story Of 2021”. Well, at least in terms of the revival of a pairing that started about a decade ago trending [6]. Allow me to explain why. [19]

The apprentice of Princess Celestia fell in love with a bird who works at a park at some point before she earned wings and became an alicorn [10] [11]. This truly brings out those familiar vibes of the early 2010s during the rise of the brony and pegasister communities, even though it can be interpreted that she is already an alicorn in her yearning for Mordecai’s love [8]. Furthermore, this is indeed a brand new headcanon worth being infatuated with. In the present, I am hoping for the four-legged bookworm to be happy with her lover since my latest manicure is inspired by her iconic design [23]. Even though she is very hardworking and dedicated to making Princess Celestia proud while Mordecai slacks off with Rigby, his colleague and best friend, which infuriates their boss, the polar opposites can balance one another out since a plus and a minus would attract [20]. This indeed would be quite similar to how Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde were on opposite ends of the law in Zootropolis, but they eventually developed a companionship that resulted in fans of the film shipping them [29]. Moreover, two opposites who yearn to attract in an interspecies relationship is worthy of rooting for [20] [24].

Move over, Edward and Bella [21]! There is a new Twilight saga! [10]

It seems like the dating advice Mordecai received from a bunch of crude, boisterous and non-magical unicorns was useful after all [3]. Although he only spoke poetry with Pops and Rigby in a rap battle [13], I believe that he has the potential to rap passionately in association with how he feels about being separated from Twilight. Hopefully, no amount of censorship for the airing of Regular Show in the United Kingdom during its global run can stop the deep-voiced blue jay from seeing his sweet purple unicorn again on the internet in 2021 [17] [20]. Besides, she is probably the only unicorn in cartoon history he does not loathe as she is nothing like that flock of sleazy unicorns [20]. I knew he would feel the same way about her as he is also well-educated, despite confusion on whether he earned a high school diploma or not and a little more mature and responsible than Rigby [15], which would mean that how he and Twilight Sparkle are polar opposites at least consist of some similarities to make their love for one another even more understandable. Apart from Shrek and Shadow the Hedgehog [7], no crossover pairing has become as iconic as Mordecai and Twilight Sparkle [6].

Since Mordecai had always wanted to date a girl named “The Power” [18], could that be a nickname for Twilight Sparkle that will bring them even closer? [14]

The two forbidden lovers are seen sitting in what looks like a green field that is perhaps beyond Equestria and the Park managed by Benson and Skips [16]. It is set at night, meaning that they must pretend that an aeroplane would be a shooting star for granting a specific wish [6]. Presumably, Mordecai is sat all alone, separated from his darling Twilight as the two of them are shedding tears. It can be argued that the two lovers are sat together at the same spot but facing away from each other, which could be a sign of them having to have been separated against their will. You can tell they never wanted to be apart by how they are crying simultaneously, which makes the scenario more likely to feature them sitting far away from each other. But wait! What if Mordecai is imagining that he and Twilight are sitting next to each other back-to-back and that she is imagining the same thing? Even though they are apparently unable to find each other with broken hearts, there is hope that they will be repaired, as good as new as a recently sent text message with a purple heart emoji and a blue heart emoji.

As previously stated, I would be honoured to have spawned a meme if I was the artist of this artwork. [6]

The song “Airplanes” by B.o.B. and Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore is perfect for the moment Mordecai and Twilight Sparkle long to reunite [1]. Apparently separated, they are so desperate to be together that they have no choice but to imagine that a plane is a shooting star so that they can make a wish [6]. And that wish is for them to be happily reunited. The fact that the song was released in 2010 is another part of the early 2010s theme around the rather ironic crossover pairing [1]. As previously mentioned, Mordecai would do the rapping verses after singing the next line of the first chorus after Twilight sings the first one. I can already imagine a cover of the song performed by J.G. Quintel and Tara Strong being uploaded onto YouTube and over a million views of its music video in honour of the tragic love story of a blue jay and a unicorn wanting to reunite. Surely, a cover of “Airplanes Pt II” would feature Rigby singing and rapping in Eminem’s role [2], but perhaps that will be saved for some time in 2022.

Surely, Twilight can alternatively pretend that a white pegasus or alicorn flying is like a shooting star. [10]

I can see that deep down, Mordecai could use another wish to prevent him and his beloved unicorn from ever being separated again. [5]

In conclusion, I am rooting for Mordecai from Regular Show and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic to be together without being judged for it after they pretend that aeroplanes soaring through the twinkly night sky are exactly like dazzling shooting stars [24]. The whole scenario is quite like the premise of Your Name, which is about two young people who are unsure if they really know each other but are determined to meet each other nonetheless [28]. As much as I am looking forward to the overall outcome of the fifth generation of the My Little Pony franchise, I believe it would have been satisfying to see the uncensored version of Regular Show air on Adult Swim [25], which would be the eventual release of “Rude Removal”, a lost episode of Dexter’s Laboratory back in 2013 all over again [4]. Move over back into the portal to Hell, Moxxie and Millie from Helluva Boss [9]! There might be a wedding for the average bluejay and brainy unicorn in about late 2021 after a heart-breaking separation that resulted in wishing upon aeroplanes as if they were stars. When are they going to meet after they express their despair from their separation? Who knows?

I strongly believe that the passengers on said aeroplane would root for Mordecai and Twilight Sparkle to be together too. [10]

Please make the wish come true! Again, this is without a doubt the best love story of 2021! [14]

The Second Season Of Pony Life – A Sweeter Slice?

I remember receiving and playing with a yellow earth pony named Spring Treat from a McDonald’s toy line when I was a child during the third generation [50] [60]. As a college student, I admired the creativity and ambitions of many bronies and pegasisters during the run of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, including a certain fan character created by an animator who chanted “Crush. Kill. Destroy. Swag.” in a robotic voice [19]. Last Summer, I reviewed many aspects of the first season of My Little Pony: Pony Life without having to watch the episodes on television [79] [80] [81] [82] [85] [86]. Those episodes did not air on Tiny Pop in the United Kingdom at the time for me to review them [47] [85] [86]. In late 2020, it was hinted that Pony Life will have another season in Spring 2021 [59]. Almost as much as plenty Sailor Moon fans will admire a Polly Pocket-inspired compact playset based on the anime [83], plenty of bronies and pegasisters are up for finding out if the second season of Pony Life will be a sweeter slice of pony life or if another shark has been jumped. Since the second season will air on Tiny Pop and Discovery Family in April 2021 [22] [31] [45] [58] [59], let us analyse some new trailers first.

I quite liked playing with Sweet Treat back in the day [60]. [50]

I am always up for a second season as a new season can lead to new settings, interesting new character development, missed opportunities and new storylines with fresh new elements. This is going to be how I analysed the trailer for the first season all over again [75] [76]. [3] [8]

It has been heavily hinted that there will be some more fantasy elements at some point in the second season [22] [31]. As much as I adore the design of the cotton candy comet, I cannot help but wonder if it will be a huge part of Rarity’s development due to how it highly resembles her head [2] [3] [7] [8]. We also see the Mane Six falling from a portal. Let us hope GLaDOS will not have anything to do with it [57]. Other fantasy elements shown in the trailer include:

•        A series of bubbles from the portal [2] [3] [7] [8]
•        A giant plant monster causing havoc [2] [3] [7] [8]
•        Signs of an alternate universe that consists of ponies communicating with bananas as if they were mobile phones [1] [6]

I recall plenty of fantasy elements from the first season, including the potions that are stored in a cabinet at Sugarcube Corner [75] [76] [85] [86]. I wonder if there will be some new ones that will result in new zany transformations after being consumed to make the second season even more refreshing. The forthcoming season seems to be focused a little more on fantasy, but I am still suspecting that there will still be some slice-of-life premises as Spike the Dragon is seen trying to play the guitar only to be distracted [3] [8].

Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring! Banana phones [9] [10] [29]. [1] [6]

Even though I mentioned how I was not too keen on some mismatched colouring and wonky proportions in several backgrounds [75] [76], I knew that it would be best to just stick the overall art quality of the first season as the second season of American Dragon: Jake Long featured its characters in a rather drastically different art style that resulted in lower critical reception during the time of the series’ airing [17] [68]. Furthermore, the ponies in Pony Life are still as adorable as the design of the latest Princess Peach plush that will be sold at the merchandise shop in Nintendo World in Japan [62] [71] [72] [73], even though it was pretty weird to see Pinkie’s friends as moving cookies in one episode of the first season [43]. I also like how there seems to be a new setting, which is a different version of Sugarcube Corner in the alternate reality shown in the “Meet the Wild Siders” trailer [1] [6]. I do believe that the second season of Pony Life will be there as more filler between the finale of Friendship Is Magic and the release of an upcoming movie based on the fifth generation of the franchise [11] [40]. 

The art style may not be as elegant as the Playmobil Spirit Untamed range [54] [55], but it is pretty cute and quirky. Besides, I like how the blue muffins look in one moment of Pinkie Pie expressing excitement. [2] [3] [7] [8]

I just cannot get over the idea and design of an alternate version of Sugarcube Corner that is a restaurant for healthy eating. It is simply…well…outside of the box. [1] [6]

Will there be any more characters from Friendship Is Magic in the new season? At this point, we know that Big Macintosh will appear in an episode [3] [8]. Oh boy, does he look scared? There will be some hope that there will be an opportunity to feature Princess Luna later on in the second season since she was seen within the “chibi” style of the Pony Life toy lines [42] [43] [49]. Furthermore, I am hoping that she can do the opposite of how her sister was portrayed as a food critic from a reality television show and perhaps help Pinkie Pie with a little more advanced baking [49] [85] [86]. Teresa Beeding as Princess Peach Toadstool from 2013 much [64] [65] [66]? Perhaps Sunset Glimmer whose past is not today will also be welcomed in the Pony Life art style. Could Starlight Glimmer also make an appearance for those who also loved the later seasons of Friendship Is Magic [38]? Mr. and Mrs. Cake might as well appear in an episode of the second season to see how Sugarcube Corner has been under Pinkie Pie’s management as they were mentioned in an episode of the first one [46]. More well-portrayed characters from Friendship Is Magic can increase Pony Life’s faithfulness to what made Friendship Is Magic enjoyable.

Should Big Mac at least say his catchphrase from Friendship is Magic in the second season of Pony Life [28]? Eeeyup! [3] [8]

I would strongly prefer to see Princess Luna assist Pinkie Pie in baking more advanced recipes over Princess Celestia be a fairly intimidating food critic [79] [80]. However, I was glad that the older sister did not want Pinkie’s heart roasted in the first season [55]. [49]

Surely, I have calmly pointed out what I found to be flawed in the first season, especially concerning character development that I believed was out-of-character [79] [80] [85] [86], but I am still hoping that the second season’s writing can at least be quite an improvement by avoiding the same mistakes made by the first. Why did Fluttershy have to be out of character as a cookie salespony just to meet her idol [43]? Did someone sneak into her shed [20]? On a lighter note, she can still have funny moments in the second season, quite like when she was struggling to open a box for an unboxing in the first one [44]. A notable example of this that will be in the second season is how she sets up a video camera. I also hope that Princess Celestia will be a little softer and more like a princess when it comes to her occupation as the ruler of Equestria if she ever appears in the second season, possibly in association with Princess Luna’s appearance. After all, she is supposed to be kind and regal [48]. I strongly recommend that the second season will feature great portrayals of the mane six that do not suddenly seem out of character, even when it comes to new and exclusive development.

I swear. The moment I saw Fluttershy being out of character in the first season at least made me glad that she did not have to be called a “cookie” by the robotic parrot from Dexter’s Laboratory [12]. Nonetheless, she appears to be helping Pinkie Pie by balancing her on her head as she grows in size, meaning she will still be her tender-hearted self in the new season of Pony Life. [2] [3] [7] [8]

What about the portrayals of some other characters shown in the trailers for the second season? I can see that Rarity is seen lying on a therapist lounge as a sign that she will still be quite a drama queen at times, just like in the first season of Pony Life and Friendship Is Magic [42] [61]. Applejack is still able to break the fourth wall as she is aware of the need for a montage to begin and when is the time to conclude it, which is a Pony Life exclusive trait I do not mind as it provides some new development that is not completely out-of-character. As for Pinkie Pie, it is lovely to see her being enthusiastic about baking cupcakes once again. As much as I do not want any more concerning out-of-character moments or traits that become exaggerated in the second season, I hope that there will be no reminders of life in the coronavirus pandemic, compared to that episode when the ponies had to wear face masks [79] [80]. I know we still need to follow certain rules to save lives in real life [4], but we also need to take our minds off the devastating impacts at times to benefit our mental health [79] [80].

As previously mentioned, the way the cotton candy comet resembles Rarity’s head could lead to some new development for her, mostly involving her vanity. [2] [3] [7] [8]

I would also some mild peril involved in the second season as there can be some tension that would make a plot more engaging and lead to any of the Mane Six showing nobility. Remember that volcano from the first season? [42]

Any new exclusive characters in the second season of Pony Life? Well, the robotic ponies known as “mechaponies” befriending Rainbow Dash resemble Jenny from My Life As A Teenage Robot and seem to have the capability of forming attachments to other ponies [2] [7] [51], which is similar to how a servo can even develop a relationship with a sim in The Sims 2: Open For Business [15]. There is also a colt whose design reminds me so much of Uncle Pecos from Pecos Pest, one of the classic Tom and Jerry cartoons. In the fifteen-second trailer, he is seen juggling about fifteen apples, which could lead to some similarities to Applejack’s notable traits [2] [7]. Could he be a Pony Life exclusive member of the Apple family [36]? If these new exclusive characters are portrayed in their own unique way, they would be part of how the second season prevents the series from going quite stale. More importantly, they ought to lead to a moral towards the end of the episodes they appear in as I recall praising certain episodes of the first season for providing good morals that set up good examples of young children [79] [80] [81] [82].

Could the mechaponies also speak Japanese [51]? [2] [7]

Ohhhh! Froggie went a-courtin’, he did ride! C-C-Crambone [67]! [2] [7]

Besides some new ponies, there will also be some new creatures in the second season in a team known as “The Wild Siders” [1] [6] [58]. There is a white peacock named “Sugar Snap”, a bat who hears to have enhanced hearing named “Echo” and a purple tiger who has radiant white hair with a blue streak named “Lightning Chill”. I believe that the fact that they all have a unicorn horn is a reference to the Potion Bottle toy line [5]. Other than that, I like how creative they all seem so far. I can tell that Lightning Chill is an expert in making salad as Pinkie Pie is seen devouring a recipe without hesitation [1] [6]. Despite the tigercorn’s cocky smirk in an alternate version of Sugarcube Corner that serves healthy food, such as salad instead of sugary treats, hopefully they will be genuinely far more considerate than Bubbles, the jerky cat from the first season [81] [82]. How fascinating the Wild Siders seem as residents of an alternate Ponyville provides more credibility for the second season’s potential with new and unique aspects [1] [6]. More importantly, they each need to consist of likeability to enrich that potential, aside from the skills in serving salad in the alternate version of Sugarcube Corner.

As much as I like the designs of the Wild Siders, I would not mind dining on a nice healthy salad at their version of Sugarcube Corner. [1] [6]

I am aware that not everypony has been fond of Pony Life. As previously stated, I have expressed my approval of Fluttershy being too pushy when it came to selling cookies [85] [86], along with Princess Celestia being an off-putting critic instead of a fair ruler [79] [80]. Moreover, I still wonder if the second season would at least be a notable improvement with no out-of-character moments, quite like how the dolls that came with the later Polly Pocket playsets within the pint-sized playmate’s current era have a hinge and twistable torsos for better articulation, compared to how the dolls within the sets that were released in 2018 had silicone legs with sticky soles for standing upright [13] [14] [21] [83]. There is always a chance to not miss out on improvement as there could have been a second version of the Road Trippin’ Cars line of the Pixel Chix franchise with a few improvements, such as adjustable volume control and samples of music that are not just three-second loops [63]. Even if the second season does not impress those who loathe the first one, at least some very minor improvement is better than no improvement at all.

Aside from how I hope Season 2 will provide some evidence of some constructive criticism being taken, I would not be surprised if there will be some more references to 2010s culture, which is what I can tolerate, as long as they do not overshadow some more original humor [44] [81] [82]. Heck, as previously stated, Fluttershy is seen filming with a video camera. [2] [3] [7] [8]

The theory that Pony Life is all in Pinkie’s point of view may still be valid, especially if she is still going to be considered the main character of the series [79] [80]. Stay tuned for the second series of Pony Life, everypony! For those who still miss the first three seasons of Friendship Is Magic before Twilight Sparkle became an alicorn, there can always be a professionally made custom unicorn Twilight toy [16], just like how there are well-made custom pets from the second generation of Littlest Pet Shop that are fanmade under fair use [24] [26] [27] [33] [34] [35], whether they have a tiny magnet in one of their legs or not [25]. Almost as much as I hope for a somewhat remastered re-released of Petz 5 for today’s PC gaming and perhaps some new unicorn-themed Littlest Pet Shop toys for the sake of the LPSTube community [23] [69] [70] [74], I hope that the second season of Pony Life will be a decent follow up before the official release of the franchise’s fifth generation with the new interesting and adorably designed characters [11] [30] [32] [41] [53]. Could the movie they will appear in be a hit in late 2021? Anypony up for a rainbow grilled cheese sandwich like the one in Cooking Mama: Cookstar after this analysis [77] [78]? Oh wait. Wrong Sugarcube Corner.

Hopefully the season second of Pony Life will be as highly familiar yet sweet and refreshing as a Dairy Milk Silk Red Velvet Oreo bar while many fellow animal crossers encounter the return of an adorable crossover between Animal Crossing and Sanrio characters in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp [18] [52].
