A Helluva Crazy Collaboration For A Shark Boy’s Summer

It looks like Silva Hound is not the only competent music producer for expanding Vivienne Medrano’s animated circles of Hell outside of the two seasons of Helluva Boss [59]. The song “Shark Boy Summer” written and sung by Eric Schwartz, a comedian and the voice of Chaz from “Exes and Oohs” [39] [51], the third episode of the second season was featured in the eleventh episode of Who Fanarted? [55]. Much to our surprise, Schwartz proposed an idea to gather some talented hazbeans around to summon a special collaboration outside of SpindleHorse [55] [57]. About two weeks later, a music video was featured in the twelfth episode of Who Fanarted? [49] [56]. Regarding my experience of reviewing and analysing Vivienne Medrano’s animated circles of Hell [70] [71], it is time for something a little different, especially after the release and appeal of the second official Loona plushie and a bunch of kawaii Helluva Boss plushies [25] [26] [27], along with the eventual release and acclaim of “Queen Bee”, the eighth episode of the first season [3] [41] [48]. Words cannot describe the relief to finally have watched it after the copyright problem that lasted for almost two years was finally solved [2]. Aside from that, put on some factor fifty sunscreen and keep your minds in the gutters because we are about to dive into a pool of fanartistry [56]!

This is not the first time I reviewed a music video as some of you may recall my analysis of the music video for “Addict” by Silva Hound that was centred around Angel Dust’s struggles and his friendship with Cherri Bomb back in Summer 2020 [34] [68] [69]. This time is another Chaz Time! In the meantime, we shall prepare for Striker’s reaction to “Western Energy” [9] [43]! [50]

The list of sinners summoned for a shark boy’s Summer includes: 

• Starmiaofairy who made an animatic of Chaz meeting Verosika Mayday and two other demons almost entirely in aqua [56]

• Iron_Icarus, also known as Tyler Sackett, who performed in amazing Summertime Chaz cosplay at a water park [56]

• Zackman199X who drew a comic strip of Chaz sinking his choppers into a papaya and squirting its juice at Moxxie [56]

• Aspen_Wind who animated an imp getting annoyed at Chaz before shoving a hotdog into his mouth at a beach [56]

• Rynndig who animated Chaz dragging Stella and Andrealphus into a blank scene [56]

The number of different methods, including some outstanding cosplaying put into this project is quite like the number of different ways each scene in Shrek is recreated in Shrek Retold [1]. Kudos to every collaborator in the demonically delightful cult of creativity! After we finally got a taste of the energy, vibrancy, and small character progressions, most notably Loona’s unmistakable humane side shining like the giant disco ball in “Queen Bee” [24] [41], we got to witness a community of talented sinners showing what they got for a music video starring Moxxie’s ex-boyfriend in different styles [39] [49] [56] [70] [71].  

Just look at all of the different art styles that show the big ambition put into the project, including the artwork of Chaz driving a nice blue car by LivzyLunawolf [56], much like all of the exceptional animation styles for all the Spider-folks from various universes in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse [61]! [56]

And kudos to FelixGoetia, also known as “Mandy” for being the main organiser [19] [56], one of the editors for the project and the one who made this animation of Chaz bragging about BOTH of his penises and using eggplants as metaphors! [56]

Some more samples of fanartistry as part of a shark boy’s summery collaboration include:

•      An image of a blue lobster latched onto Chaz’s chest as a wave splashes against an imp named “Asher” behind him by GalaxyToaster77 [56]
•      An animation of Chaz offering a flamingo to perform oral sex with him by G_A420_Artz [56]
•      An animated sequence of Chaz with three fan characters eating fruit by Oh_Hyucc and Hel_Yasss [56]

You can tell that the project has been well organised as each contributor was given a segment to do. Being part of a loyal fanbase Schwartz has been kind and appreciative to throughout the Who Fanarted? Series [47] [52] [53] [54] [55] [56], every contributor in the crafty clan deserves appreciation for their participation. Moreover, Schwartz further expresses his gratefulness by analysing every segment in the video in the twelfth episode of Who Fanarted? [56]. Considering how the majority of segments feature Chaz in swimwear, I would not be surprised if there will be a pin exactly like that during the next official Summer merchandise sales [33] [44].

And did I mention that Sackett also drew a parody of Playboy magazine in between silhouettes of Sallie May and Striker? [56]

• ChazGothQueen for the artwork of her own Hellaverse character next to Chaz in the beach background from “Spring Broken” [42] [56]

• Dreamyskiess’s artwork of Chaz positioning his hands into what can be a shadow puppeteer demonstrating a piranha plant shadow [56]

You, along with the artists who took part in the project do not suppose that there could be a new storyline set before the events of “Exes and Oohs” centred around Chaz, no [39] [70] [71]? Did he at least take some time to reflect on how he blew his chance to save Moxxie from getting arrested at some point? If not, we still remember him for being a secondary antagonist with a few notable traits in the third episode of the second season.

How many pairs of swimming trucks Chaz does have, including this one by Grisha Novak?! [56]

Let us not forget to give a shark boy’s kudos to:

I do not doubt that there would have been even more styles and methods from even more artists included if the song lasted for almost two more minutes. Moreover, I suppose Schwartz can take some time to produce an extended version of “Shark Boy Summer” after his tour and it can provide some more potential as a song outside of SpindleHorse [46]. But for now, I admire his efforts to write a fairly short but raunchy song based on what Chaz’s perspective would be outside of Crimson’s mansion in the Greed Ring of Hell [39] [70] [71]. 

Again with the eggplants?! At least they are not from that army of talking eggplants from that episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog [11]. [54]

Would anyone like a slice of pizza with chunks of pineapple on it later [56]? How about some artistic ocean-themed dessert afterwards [21]? What? You thought I was going to offer you some deadly purple milkshake from WackDonald’s too [32] [40]? [56]

Alongside the compilation of fanart, animations and even a moment of cosplaying are most of the lyrics in a teal colour and some thick font [56]. And yes, a guest brought up the fact that male sharks technically have two penises [52], although they are called “claspers” [13], thus making Schwartz believe that Chaz has two penises with one being bigger than the other. And yes, Schwartz was impressed at my ability to write my own parody lyrics in two episodes of Who Fanarted? [53]. The Helluva Boss series sure has a lot of sexual references [39] [40] [41] [42] [43], so it is no wonder the song written by the voice of a sexually deviant ex-boyfriend of a husband AND a wife is raunchy [39] [56]. There is also some creativity involved when it came to cramming several aspects of unwinding in the summertime into Chaz’s perspective. It is believed that the genre of the song fits into the R&B and Hip-Hop categories [56]. How about a Latin American Spanish version of the song by Tommy Rojas [20]? I wonder if there will be a time when Schwartz writes another song from Chaz’s perspective after he makes his second appearance in another flashback scene in a future Helluva Boss episode [39], which could lead to another ambitious collage like the “Shark Boy Summer” music video [56]. 

It can be said that the genre of “Chaz Time” from “Exes and Oohs” also fits into the R&B category [20] [39]. Once again, kudos to Schwartz for writing his own song in Chaz’s perspective, much like how kudos went to Alexandra Bender for proposing a highly promising reboot of Angela Anaconda [5] [7], despite it getting rejected back in early 2020 [6]. [56].

Chaz’s hellishly promiscuous and financially troubled legacy lives on, even after his death at the end of “Exes and Oohs” [39] [70] [71], thanks to a truckload of talent. The music video for “Shark Boy Summer” would take place before the events of “Exes and Oohs”, right [39]? Despite how concerning lower merchandise sales and fewer views on YouTube resulting in a lower income for a studio and a higher risk of future projects getting cancelled are [22], we can still show support for content creators and loyal contributors, even outside of the studio where a series spawned [56]. After all, the legality problems surrounding the delayed eighth episode of the first season of Helluva Boss were finally solved, resulting in it finally being released last Saturday [2] [41] [48]. Hopefully, there will be plenty of money and motivation for future episodes [29] [30]. Aside from the triumph of the first season’s completion and the hype for the fifth episode of the second season, can you imagine Chaz posting selfies and such on a Voxtagram/Sinstagram account back in 2020 [8] [17] [45] [59]? Aside from that, I am pretty sure a future episode or an issue of an official webcomic series could provide some backstory on how Chaz and Millie were dating before they broke up [39] [52]. 

Still find the second season flawed after the release of “Western Energy” [12] [43]? “Queen Bee” could be right up to your alley in the Gluttony Ring [3] [23] [24] [41]. Satan knows many of us had have an appetite for it for over a year [2]. I, along with several other people like me, still need some coping mechanism through all the harmful misunderstandings of autistic people in this world, don’t we [14] [15] [16] [67]? And please, go show some support for those who participated in some fascinating AUs [18]! [41]

What could be next? The Chaz equivalent of rickrolling [4] [31] [47]? I wonder if he did a duet with Queen Beelzebub at a party in the Gluttony Ring or went on a blind date at “Ozzie’s” in the Lust Ring before the events of “Exes and Oohs” [39] [40] [41]. Kudos to not only Eric Schwartz for voicing Chaz but also Kesha Sebert for voicing Bee and Rochelle Diamante for providing her singing voice [23] [24] [39] [58]! And if you still excuse me, I shall be off to make my own musical mischief [62] [63] [64]! But first, I need to warn Stolas about any hellhounds or three-headed dogs pooping in his garden [65] [66]. Welcome back to artistic damnation, fellow sinners and admirers of animation for adults! A few days after a certain pink-wigged internet personality managed to sell “gamer girl” condoms [2] [3] [4], a brand new animated music video was uploaded on the YouTube channel ran by the talented and inspirational Vivienne Medrano [17]. Over eight months after the success of the pilot of Hazbin Hotel that roared like the fires of Hell [20], we finally get to see more of Angel Dust, arguably the pilot’s most iconic character in association with a groovy techno song produced by Silva Hound and sang by Michael Kovach and Chi-Chi named “Addict” [27] [28]. Since I have critically praised the pilots of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss [20] [21] [38] [39], I have had some high expectations for the music video before its release as I spotted its two teasers on the official Hazbin Hotel Twitter timeline [6] [7]. Surely there have been other artists drawing their own redesigns of the cast of Hazbin Hotel during its rise in popularity [1], but their canon designs are still being used in the official music video for “Addict” to honour the popularity of a special circle of Hell [17].

Who knows? There can always be fanmade versions of the music video with one of the remixes of the song and alternative designs of Angel Dust [28]. [1]

Anyway, since I have once again been dragged to Hell [24], let the analysis begin! [17]

Once again, the art style and animation are absolutely magnificent [17]. Aside from the enchantingly gorgeous pink spider web behind Angel Dust at the strip club [6] [7] [23], there are striking green flames, dazzling purple flames and convincing clouds of smoke from bombs during a certain daring dame’s destructions. The backgrounds once again have carefully selected colour palettes to suit the energetic beat of the song and emotions of the characters. Additionally, I adore how there is a mesmerising aquarium behind the two antiheroes at some point, which could be proof of the four-armed frenemy’s fondness of pacing through an aquarium [11]. The characters move smoothly and quite frantically as part of the excellent quality put into the successful pilot of Hazbin Hotel maintained in the music video [20], especially during a bird’s-eye view of Cherri Bomb that rotates during her an explosion spree on rooftops. Even though I wonder how the heck would it rain green liquid in Hell, I still thought the raining effect was pretty cool. Medrano’s talented team of artists and animators have given the music video set in her own circle of Hell a familiar lot of artistic value [20] [21], partially bringing back memories of the animated music video that starred a werewolf named JJ [19].

And of course, there is satanic imagery, such as the pentagram behind the antiheroic allies since the intellectual property is set in Hell [20]. Furthermore, how can there be an aquarium in the depths of Hell? Apparently, fish can be sinners on Earth as well unless the fish were borrowed from Heaven. There are brighter and more striking colour palettes for when Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb are feeling empowered. [17]

And there are duller and more depressing colour palettes during the moments when Angel Dust is looking tormented. The animation is excellent, even though the flow of the dollars being earned by Angel Dust for his strutting is slightly choppy. [17]

It turns out that the character who consists of the vocals of Chi-Chi in the music video is Cherri Bomb instead of Molly [17] [38] [39]. At least Chi-Chi’s amazing singing suits Cherri very well as she was voiced by Krystal LaPorte in the pilot [13]. It is quite a relief that she managed to flick one of her bombs away before it exploded out of sight after the solo verse began. Before that, the rebellious nemesis of Sir Pentious is seen launching her bombs on rooftops during her comrade’s performance at the strip club. I love how the one-eyed antiheroine sings along with Angel Dust dresses up with him as a loyal friend of his. I do not doubt that plenty of Hazbeans enjoyed watching their synchronised dance routine at another strip club. I can say that the masterpiece of a music video expands on the alliance and loyalty between Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb [20]. Hell would usually be an intimidating place for terrible people to pay the price, but its Vivziepop circle is sometimes a place for two best friends to get their grooves on [17].

It looks like Cherri Bomb can also throw bottle-shaped bombs in the name of female empowerment in Pentagram City. [17]

But seriously, does she always have to blow something up? Even places where no threat is being aimed at her? [17]

I can tell from the beginning that the music video takes place at some point before the comic that takes place before Charlie Magne, the princess of Hell tells Hell’s population about her dream of helping sinners redeem themselves [8] [9] [10] [20]. Valentino, the pimp accompanied by two female characters as he watches Angel’s performance blows a red breeze of tobacco smoke as a symbol of his lust towards him, especially when the tip of it forms a hand to swiftly stroke his chin [17]. The proactive and promiscuous antihero has been considered physically attractive to many folks in Hell. Hell, he receives disturbing letters from fans to prove that [20]. That still does not justify Valentino’s controlling actions and the terrible impact they have on Angel Dust [8] [9] [10] [14]. Furthermore, I would love to see his reputation get ruined at some point in a line of new episodes of Hazbin Hotel throughout the 2020s [14]. The end of the music video that features an exclusive and far more melodramatic verse of the song takes place at some point after the events of the pilot and seems likely to be featured in the next episode as it shows Angel Dust rejecting Charlie’s attempt at kindness at the hotel [17] [20].

Ah. The music video definitely takes place before the pilot as we see the same fella who engaged in sexual activity with Angel Dust [20]. [17]

There is a less powerful side of Angel Dust shown in a few scenes of the music video [17]. The way he has a meltdown was quite unnerving to watch. Nonetheless, it was touching to see Cherri Bomb attempt to comfort him during some short transitions to a bleaker side during the first chorus, which shows a more humane side of her. The red scent from Valentino’s smoking is also briefly seen coiling his target’s neck and wrists to symbolise his desires to dominate him solely because of his physical attractiveness [8] [9] [10] [14]. The moments when Angel seemed to feel weaker than he would normally seem to feel point to a theory that he is a victim of sexual abuse, especially during the moment he has to kiss Valentino against his own will, which adds more to how he was created at the time Medrano was in a toxic relationship [11] [38] [39]. Even though I was once non-canonically treated to the four-armed sex symbol re-enacting quotes from Bayonetta [30], I am quite saddened by how he ended up being taken advantage of by someone he works for [8] [9] [10] [14], leading to a canonical decline of his mental well-being as shown towards the end of the music video [17].

Even though Angel Dust spouted plenty of sexual humour in the pilot of Hazbin Hotel [20], the abuse he gets haunts him, which explains why he threw some wine glasses across the room in an unstable manner. [17]

I may have been a bit peeved at Angel Dust giving Charlie the finger at the hotel, but I can still that he is still feeling anxious about being confronted by Valentino, even when he is holding the cigarette that spawns a similar red fume to the controlling pimp exhaled at the strip club. The way it was curved into the shape of a heart after he tosses it onto an ashtray could be a sign of him possibly having Stockholm syndrome, but I digress as that is more likely to apply to Vincent Brooks from Catherine [40] [41]. [17]

Let us look into some other characters. At some point during Cherri Bomb’s Michael Bay inspired antics [32], she shortly reflects on another character who briefly resembles Arackniss, the older brother of Angel Dust who is usually tough towards him [12] [17]. Speaking of Arackniss, it was mentioned by Medrano that he would be given a redesign in the show [17], compared to his appearance in Daddy Issues, an animatic created in 2015 during Hazbin Hotel’s development [18]. The female demon who is accompanied by Valentino looks a lot like Millie from Helluva Boss [21]. Since she seems to be a lesbian instead of a male co-worker’s wife [17], could she be Millie’s sister? The reason for Fat Nuggets, the adorable pet pig of Angel Dust being present in Hell might be a reference to how consuming meat from pigs is prohibited in Islam [35]. Nevertheless, he sure brings a more humane side of his owner as somewhat predicted in my analysis of the French dub of the pilot [36] [37]. Aside from how the cast of radically designed characters appears to have slightly increased, let us hope that more episodes of Hazbin Hotel will lead to the antihero’s freedom from Valentino’s sexual manipulation [14].

Arackniss [12]? Is that you? I guess Cherri Bomb does not like you very much. [17]

Despite how I believe that YouTube and its service have gotten worse and worse as the years went on [5] [31] [34], there will always be something new from a content creator to be bewitched by. Plenty of Hazbeans are still curious about what will happen next after the events of the pilot [20], but at least a hellishly stunning music video taking place before the events is one hell of a treat for them in the second half of 2020 [17]. Am I addicted to the feeling and getting higher than the ceiling [27] [28]? Well, I shall hope that the four-armed frenemy will find a way to overcome the sexual abuse he received, along with those being abused in real life finding a way out as well [15] [26] [29] [33]. His development has come a long way since the moment an earlier interpretation of him looked deranged and murderous when unfitting music played back in 2013 [22]. While plenty of old school Nintendo nerds who also declare to be LEGO lovers are sensing a sweet breeze of nostalgia with the LEGO NES set [16], our fellow Hazbeans are addicted to the madness as Hazbin Hotel is their Atlantis [17] [20] [27] [28].

If you do not want the feeling to end, just give in to your inner demons again [27] [28]. [17]
