A sneak peek of a new episode of Helluva Boss was revealed alongside the second Season Two Trailer at LVL UP EXPO in Las Vegas as hot Valentine’s Day-theme merchandise was being sold [76] [129] [130]. As for “Seeing Stars”, the previous episode of the second season, I was endeared by how Stolas became an ally of the I.M.P. to find his daughter in Los Angeles, yet the sub-plot about Moxxie’s infatuation with artistry did not have much of an impact apart from being a slight flaw in his relationship with Millie that thankfully did not overshadow their undying devotion for one another and would have been better off in a separate episode to some of us [5] [127] [128]. Despite its rather mixed reception, many sinners ultimately appreciated “Seeing Stars”, seeing it as the demonic lovechild of “Loo Loo Land” and “Spring Broken” [119]. Have the flaws in the first two episodes of the second season pointed out indicated that the show has jumped the devilish shark in a lava pit [55]? Maybe to some. Has the writing finally shown signs of improvement in the new episode titled “Exes and Oohs” [49] [67]? Let us proceed to analyse! And of course, I have been the nicest hazbean I can be when it came to admiring other franchises [80] [92].
Before and during the start of this year’s Aromantic Awareness Week [3] [56] [116], what was revealed in the second trailer for the second season sparked my curiosity and optimism [129] [130]. But a while ago, I witnessed Stolas, my favourite character being associated with harmful misrepresentation of autism for the second time [16]. Nonetheless, I am blessed to receive such compassion from tender-hearted allies before the release of “Exes and Oohs” [90]. And speaking of aromantic awareness, there is a new theory about the series’ main character that will be explained later. [73]
I will expect a new and fresh storyline, unlike how Jim Davis created a Garfield comic strip in late 2001 and completely recycled it a year later [20] [22] [97] [104], which was not the only time he committed such a time-saving misdeed against creativity [21] [23] [24] [26]. Despite “Seeing Stars” being the least viewed and critically acclaimed episode of the series, the next one could help the series bounce back [72] [129] [130]. “Seeing Stars” bit off more than it can chew [5], but can the new episode chew before it can swallow? [67]
This episode’s focus is on a new perspective for Moxxie whose last name has been revealed to be “Knolastname” [49] [67]. Aside from Loona not giving a fudge about him losing two lbs, it turns out that he grew up in a dodgy town named “Notamafia Town” and sometime after he grew up, he had a crush on a new character who will be explained later. Quite tragically, he got left to be thrown into the slammer after a heist he did with his ex, which lead to him meeting the Blitzster for the first time. The moment when he scrolls through memories of his devoted relationship with Millie and his phone whilst shedding tears reminds me of the ending of “Ozzie’s” [70], yet he was not afraid to later confront another new character about how he feels about his intentions, in spite of how that led to him being stunned and held hostage [67]. Surely, “Seeing Stars” could have consisted of some more originality and potentially better pacing within its writing by focusing more on Octavia’s muddled journey in Los Angeles [5] [72], “Exes and Oohs” has provided a brand new focus on Moxxie regarding his past, which has been done quite effectively [67].
It makes a little more sense for Moxxie to be a damsel-in-distress than Stolas to be one in one of the upcoming episodes [129] [130], considering all he has been through throughout the series, yet he is still a strong and capable bisexual nobleman. The fat shaming aimed at his may have annoyed him and further showed Blitzo and Loona’s incompetent employability in “Seeing Stars” [72], but at least he was not provoked into gaining an eating disorder, which thankfully did not spawn any controversy. I still consider him my second favourite character and I praise “Exes and Oohs” for finally answering a question asked about two certain characters [71]. [67]
As seen in one of the previews on Twitter, Blitzo spends some time in the slammer [63] [67], which is not a surprise to some of us considering how antiheroic he is and unlawful his use of Stolas’ grimoire seems to be [71]. I did not see the point of all those photographs in his office, but it is quite refreshing to see his unprofessionally business-minded nature at the start of an episode again [68] [69]. Oh! And he just had to have sex with a new character without getting to know him much further [67]. It may seem like the characters just learn something, only to quickly revert back to their usual habits a moment later in an episode, which is rather disappointing in terms of excepting top-notch writing, but I suppose it further implies that the series does not follow a specific chronology aside from his origin alongside Stolas’ in the beginning of “The Circus” [73]. Even though his role is not as big in “Exes and Oohs”, the Blitzster still provided some competence in a supporting role, especially when he sneaks away with a new character’s car keys to later expose him regarding his wealth, despite how he cheated on my owl daddy [67].
Blitzo slept with someone
You think that’s bad?
He could make Moxxie
A little mad… [71]
He may be fiendish, yeah! And not a pimp,
But the one thing he’s not is a scaredy imp [35]. [67]
In all seriousness though, I hope that the ways I have pointed out Blitzo’s inability to spell coherently have not been considered offensive to those with dyslexia [10]. As for his fling with a new character [67], we’d better not let Stolas find out…unless Stolitz will provide more signs of being an open relationship at some point [68]. Moreover, I am starting to believe that he could either be aromantic due to his lack of romantic interactions with other characters outside of his lustful moments, including Stolas or demiromantic as he is yet to cast his sexual deviousness aside and finally be able to have genuine romantic feelings for him [70] [75]. [67]
Millie Knolastname was absolutely fuming in the fourth preview of “Exes and Oohs” on Twitter [63]. It was a little odd that Moxxie and Millie did not wear any disguises in the living world in the previous episode [71], even though they did so in “C.H.E.R.U.B.” [66], but at least “Exes and Oohs” is another road of a little progression for the current Mrs. Knolastname [67]. Firstly, she takes out her anger on a cardboard cut-out of a human after seeing an ex-boyfriend who will be explained later. The moment she meets him again and finds out about what he did to Moxxie in the past, along with the reveal of the true colours and intentions of another new character is the angriest she has been in the series. Every moment of character development is worth cherishing, despite how the portrayal of the female characters seemed to make them look like tools for the male characters’ likeabilities in the previous episodes [129] [130]. But after seeing Millie rescue her husband again and learning a little about her love life before her marriage, I still deny the claim of Helluva Boss being sexist solely for not developing the main female characters as well as the main male characters [110].
Compared to “Seeing Stars”, Moxxie and Millie’s husband-and-wife moments outside of Blitzo being involved in solving Stolas’ conflict at least worked better in “Loo Loo Land”, considering most of that episode was set in one of Hell’s amusement parks [68] [72]. At least they were given some further exploration and bigger roles in “Exes and Oohs”. I still wonder how Lucifer and Lilith’s marriage will be compared to theirs in Hazbin Hotel [51] [52]. [67]
Looking at two of the previews on Twitter during the Christmas break, I suspected that another new character smoking a cigar by a fireplace illuminated by green hellfire was Crimson, Moxxie’s father who was later revealed in the sneak peek at LVL UP EXPO and one of the last previews announcing the release date [54] [63]. As I have stated in my analysis of her second work-in-progress trailer [129] [130], Crim’s voice could have been deeper aside from a slight New York accent, like Harold’s voice in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy [14] [15]. Crim’s character design is okay, but perhaps it could differ slightly more from Moxxie’s apart from his mafia boss attire. Personality-wise, he is cunning…and crude as he even goes as far as to physically and verbally abuse his son and force him into an arranged marriage with his ex, despite how he is still married to Millie [48] [67]. Crimson is, without a doubt, even worse than Paimon and Cash Buckzo from “The Circus” [73]! And I thought Striker was a psycho who possibly has Antisocial Personality Disorder [74]! As bewilderingly psychotic Crimson has been in “Exes and Oohs”, I would not be surprised if Carl from Llamas With Hats would be the next hitman in Hell to hire [32].
Admittedly, the “problematic parent” trope might have gone a little stale at this point as it has already been done with Paimon and Cash Buckzo [41] [42] [73]. However, Crimson’s overall portrayal is basically a fusion of Striker, Paimon and Cash Buckzo on steroids [73] [74]! Could he and Striker team up sometime? I kind of hope the “Daddy issues” trope will not be repeated for the sake of the series not becoming rather predictable to an extent. Nonetheless, call me crazy, but Crimson could have the potential to be the antiheroic protagonist in a short-lived spin-off of Helluva Boss with the occupation of a mafia boss in Hell [71]! [67]
Joe and Lin who appeared in “The Harvest Moon Festival” were not as funny and developed as Bernie and Roz from Meet The Fockers [79], but Crimson’s portrayal was at least the key to providing some more character exploration for Moxxie. At least Crim looking like a taller and evil version of Moxxie is not as baffling as Lovestruck being a Twilight Sparkle recolour, even though I still love her [82]. Moreover, if he were to return in a future episode, I would suggest giving him a deeper New York voice performed by a different voice actor, so that he does not sound too much like Moxxie [129] [130]. Again, no offence to the talented Richard Horvitz. [67]

It turns out that Moxxie also had a mother [67]. She may not have spoken once during another scene flashback, but she was encouraging to him, yet refuses to let him stoop the kind of low Crimson would, which is quite like what I would like to see when it comes to portrayals of Stolas’ mother and Blitzo and Barbie Wire’s mother who was merely mentioned in “The Circus” [73]. I think we finally have an explanation for why Moxxie hesitated and panicked in “Murder Family” or at least a brief one [69]. The lack of dialogue during the flashback adds a bit to the emotional tension of what Moxxie had to put up with as a little one [67]. Not only did her own husband murder her without any remorse but he is also biphobic to his son in the present! What if Moxxie’s mother was friends with Millie’s parents at some point before she died [74]? This could lead to how Moxxie and Millie first met, which would arguably make a little more sense than how Stolas and Blitzo first met in “The Circus” [73], especially without any aspects of slavery being involved. Even though Moxxie’s mother was only a flashback character [67], I consider her one of the best parents in the series. Rest in peace, Moxxie’s mum.
Awwww! Baby Moxxie! Who would dare to traumatise such a little darling?! Hopefully, at some point in Moxxie’s childhood, Crimson lost custody of him and he was taken into care in a foster home before he grew up to learn…a little more about him. [67]

In another preview that was released during the Christmas break, the shark-like fellow who was previously hinted at in the teaser trailer appears to be attracted to Moxxie [131] [132], according to two extra signs [63]. As previously mentioned in my analysis of the second trailer for the second season, I thought it was fitting to refer to him as “Bones” because of the design of his jacket until I discovered that Adam Neylan, one of the show’s writers revealed that his name was “Chaz” [83]. Even though Chaz offers a sexual favour to Moxxie in a flashback, he just had to spell his name wrong in one of the signs he held at the door as a sign of expressing lust over true love [63] [67]. But uh oh! It turns out that he dated both Moxxie AND Millie! He has quite an ego and is sexually deviant with very little desire to make a commitment [47], which makes him have the Romance aspiration from The Sims 2 but more sinful and deadlier [29]. Chazwick Thurman is a whole new kind of antagonist, which is not only part of the individuality of “Exes and Oohs” but quite a unique expansion on the variety of villains in Helluva Boss [47] [67]. Speaking of villains, Vox, Valentino and Velvette are sure to boost sinisterness in Hazbin Hotel [45].

Oi! Don’t you dare sexually harass my second favourite character! Oh, and don’t spell his name wrong on a sign again either [63]! Seriously! Chaz makes Don Lothario and Larry Laffer look like monks [29] [115]. He even sleeps with Blitzo and locks him in his car boot, further proving his sleaziness. Since there was only room in the plot for a flashback of Moxxie’s relationship with him, maybe a flashback of the relationship he had with Millie could be featured in a future episode or an idea that will be explained later. [67]
By the way Chaz left Moxxie behind in a flashback, you can tell that he only thinks with his genitalia instead of his heart, being selfish and not considering how all his love interests would feel outside of his own needs [67]. The moment he tried to convince Moxxie to do some sexual activity with him again in the present reminds me of Stolas’ conflict with Valentino in the fanmade crossover comic “Cinders” by Midiroo [88]. Shocking enough, he is yet another antagonist to be killed after Blitzo exposes him to Crimson during the resolution. Despite Chazwick’s death, I would not be surprised if he will be pin up pin in the next Valentine’s Day merchandise sales [76] [77]. [67]
Loona’s physical attack on Blitzo, even after her humane side towards Octavia near the end of “Seeing Stars” was rather uncalled for and decreased her likeability to an extent [27] [72], but at least she was still in character and it could be associated with her still not being quite used to living beyond a pound full of judgemental so-called “carers”. Is the depth under the furry layer of aggression ultimately still there, nonetheless? Too bad Loona apparently spends all day in the office on her phone in “Exes and Oohs” [67], much like Zoomer the Hedgehog [38]. I think it is okay for a character’s portrayal to be reduced to a gag if it is another character’s turn to gain some development in a new episode, but I wonder if Loona will join in the next adventure and have a moment of more of her humane side popping out [72] [129] [130]? Could there also be another flashback of her struggles at the hellhound pound [72]? I bet she would be just as brutal as Millie if she went to Crimson’s mansion and found out about Chaz locking Blitzo in his car’s boot as well [67]. If only she did not chase after me with a water cooler over a sandwich one time [118].

Don’t give me that look, Loona! All I wanted was for Blitzo to know that that was MY sandwich [118]! [67]

Anything new regarding my owl daddy? Where is he? On Twitter [96]? Taking ASMR requests [107]? Calling the Krusty Krab…or Patrick [98]? Despite Bryce Pinkham quoting the announcement of the episode’s release date [89], Stolas is nowhere in it. As previously mentioned, we better not let him find out about Blitzo possibly cheating on him with Chaz unless it will be confirmed that “Exes and Oohs” takes place after the events of “Ozzie’s”, just like the end of “The Circus” [70] [72]. Moreover, being anti-Stolitz does not make a hazbean any less if a hazbean. I can see that Stolas’ feelings towards Blitzo were quite inconsistent in the previous episode, despite proof that it is set after the announcement of him and Stella finally getting divorced in the second season’s premiere [72] [73]. No way he will make the same mistakes his father and his wife made [36], despite how he has been considered a slightly problematic parent outside of my opinion [95]. And even though the irony of Stolas and Blitzo being in a relationship in the first place was taken away by their origin in “The Circus” [73], quite similar to Shrek and Fiona catching a brief glimpse of one another as young children in Shrek: The Musical [13] [28], it was still praised for proving that homosexuals are born that way and so on [30] [31].
I want you to be alive and happy in a new episode or two, my owl daddy…but you ate Stuart Little [57] [122]! HOW DARE YOU!!! You are still my owl daddy though. [72]

It can be argued that Chaz and Crimson are even more controversial than Stella [67] [73] [74]. To a certain extent, I can agree with that statement. Throughout the series so far, there is not enough evidence of Stella being an abusive mother to Octavia, but chances are that she could still be just a rather problematic one [68] [72] [74]. I believe an unlikely but promising redemption arc could be when she spends another weekend with her daughter, leading to her antagonistic nature being written better with some motives behind it [129] [130], which would be quite similar to Goldi receiving some depth and eventual redemption in Puss In Boots: The Last Wish [91]. Could that happen in an idea for the future of the series that will be explained later? But what if…Crim will return in a new episode in a third season and schmooze a divorced Stella into getting revenge on both Moxxie AND Stolas [67] [72] [74]?! As for her brother and her daughter, there could perhaps be a flashback of them playing together in a wintery landscape, just as long as Little Octavia will be nice and warm in adorable and appropriate new Winter attire in a new episode that could be the one Andrealphus debuts in [129] [130].
I am up for Stella wearing a new red dress that is as beautiful as a custom Polly Pocket playset inspired by Spirited Away if she was to find a potential second husband [108] [109]. However, looks can be deceiving if the main motivation is digging for gold. And surely, Puss In Boots could speak Italian at some point in Shrek 5 since his voice actor is also fluent in Italian and did Puss’ voice in the Italian dub of Shrek The Third [99] [100]. Speaking of Italian, an official Italian dub of the Helluva Boss pilot ought to be established soon, right [46]? [73]
There was also a hugely missed opportunity to establish a more original and seemingly necessary musical number with Octavia and possibly Loona in “Seeing Stars”, despite the appreciation for Millie singing for the first time [72]. Has it been achieved in this episode? Is there a rickroll [8]? Well, the first song in “Exes and Oohs” is titled “Chaz Time” and its genre is the kind of music you would hear in a strip club [67]. Chaz just sings explicit lyrics like some Verosika Mayday wannabe [125] [126]. Can you imagine him and Moxxie singing a song together in a flashback in another episode [87]? When Chaz tries to serenade Millie, which backfires, he states that it usually works [67], which is what I believe how Mayday would feel [125] [126]. The second song is a country song written in Millie’s perspective that is played on the radio in the I.M.P. van and goes so well with the killing spree she commits to save Moxxie from being unhappily married to Chaz [67]. A new musical number can always provide some further character exploration as the music video of a jazzy remix of Baby Shark” featured Grandma Shark and Grandpa Shark as jazz performers at a time when they were younger dreamt by Baby Shark [7].
I would be pumped if there will be a deathcore or metalcore song in a new episode or two [4]! And I would swoon at a song Charlie and Vaggie will sing together in Hazbin Hotel [45]. [67]

The animation is once again compelling. It turns out that the prime conflict of “Exes and Oohs” is set in the Greed Ring [67]. Before the appearance of Crimson’s mansion that Luigi would dread going on a ghost hunt in [85], we see the rebuilding of Loo Loo Land and several imps committing crimes, such as theft and murder [53]. The slight choppiness of Stolas’ animation during his speech and other noted samples of sudden lag in “The Harvest Moon Festival “might have been a little glitch or a framerate issue [6] [74], which was thankfully does not seem to be present in “Exes and Oohs” [67]. There are dark shades of green everywhere in Crimson’s mansion shown, which makes it quite an intimidating residence for a mafia boss. The room full of images of Caz really adds to his narcissism, but the disco ball that appears and changes the room’s colour palette with a splendid lightning effect during his musical number adds to his seductive nature. There may have been some inconsistencies due to some of the newer animators being differently experienced in “Seeing Stars” [5] [72] [127] [128], but most of the quality has been maintained, especially for a better-written episode [67]. Lastly, there is the likeliness of animation errors, no matter how much work is put into bringing characters and props to life [49].

I recall the major edits of many scenes from the trailer for Season One being identified as its final outcome progressed [1]. As for the visuals in “Exes and Oohs”, I can see that the animation is a little more consistent, compared to a few inconsistencies in “Seeing Stars” [67] [72]. The action of the wedding crash scene is about as advanced as the fighting scene in “Truth Seekers”, which is highly impressive [75]. The new backgrounds in ”Exes and Oohs” are splendidly done, especially the dining room in Crimson’s mansion [67]. The bar kind of reminds me of the bar at the Happy Hotel in the Hazbin Hotel pilot [46]. [67]
Some of the camera work is done really well, especially when the dramatic turn after Crimson hangs Chaz’s jaws on his wall and before he throws a dagger at the family portrait above his strangely bewitching fireplace [67]. The darkness of the flashback of Moxxie’s childhood and the way the characters’ eyes glow and stand out from it increase its grittiness, including the moment when a certain shoe appears from the coal-black water. And did I mention that there are some exceptional smoke effects as well? And I probably should not use a screenshot of those semi-censored dildos, not just because they caused some members’ computers to crash [49]. Dearie me… [67]
Gotta love how Blitzo refers to crashing the wedding as “doing a Shrek” and a certain Titanicreference during the flashback of Moxxie’s relationship with Chaz [49] [67]. I would say “Exes and Oohs” has the best writing of the second season so far as it does not butcher the likely reputation of a character introduced in the first season and has better pacing without a tacked-on side plot [72] [73], despite how a few aspects could be a little better, such as making Crimson’s character design slightly more original and some prevention of the contradiction regarding where Moxxie was born and raised in [49] [67], despite how that was cleared up on Twitter [84]. Adam Neylan has really stepped up his game in terms of writing and he deserves some praise [49] [67]. Aside from the writing’s improvement in “Exes and Oohs”, I think I have found a loophole that will make up for missed opportunities in previous episodes, especially “Seeing Stars” [72]. In the near future, I believe that SpindeHorse can produce an official Helluva Boss webcomic series [121]. I know that sounds pointless due to the huge number of fanmade webcomics across social media, but it can bring back the usefulness of those webcomics that took place before the events of the pilot for Hazbin Hotel [50].
An issue of an official Helluva Boss webcomic series can be a flashback of Chaz’s relationship with Millie and another can focus on more of Octavia’s muddled journey in Los Angeles during the events of “Seeing Stars” [67] [72] [121]. Perhaps another issue can feature some backstory for Stella explaining her atrocious personality. I will also look forward to the return of Sallie May in a new episode [74]. Can transwomen be consisted fiercely female too [123] [124]? Hell yeah! [72]
As for the writing in “Exes and Oohs”, I can definitely see some improvement compared to the other two episodes [67] [72] [73]. I humbly believe that some reviewers can point out flaws in writing better than I can [39] [93], but I swear that I do not deserve online vitriol for praising some aspects of the writing in Helluva Boss as I rationally respect other sinners’ opinions [17] [43] [105]. Again, opinions are opinions and you do not always have to agree with a critic [25]. [67]
I understand that some hazbeans will still prefer the non-canon Voxtagram stories over the second season, especially for mild nostalgia at the time we all needed a coping mechanism during the coronavirus outbreak [9] [10] [11] [18] [81] [103]. Quite sadly, have noticed that the official Instagram accounts for Stolas and Blitzo appear to be no longer active as their latest posts are from Summer 2022 and there has not seen a new image posted on either of them since [12] [19]. Moreover, Medrano had confirmed that those two may be partially canon, especially the ones after Summer 2020, all of the Hellaverse characters’ accounts are no longer associated with the shows due to some followers mistreating them in a certain way [64] [65]. Ultimately, it does not matter if those running the official Instagram accounts for the characters do not post any images of them anymore, yet it was still a fun and unique way to market and promote a web series. Quite conveniently, the accounts for the Hazbin Hotel characters might become active again but follow a new timeline regarding the continuation from “That’s Entertainment” with their updated designs and such, just as long as Medrano will be completely comfortable with that [64], yet improved writing in new episodes would be far more important [129] [130].
As much as some hazbeans would miss the old Voxtagram stories, I miss publishing some gaming-related articles on Video Game Almanac, along with ICUGamer, which was what GamesEnquirer was known as before their previous website got hacked and had to be shut down in mid-2021 [33] [112] [117]. [18]
I understand that a well-animated cartoon does not automatically mean a well-written cartoon. The classic Danger Mouse cartoons were mediocrely animated, but there were a lot of shining examples of cleverly written dialogue from Danger Mouse and Penfold [106]. The animation in Toy Story 4 is mesmerisingly masterful, but it is not immune to criticism regarding several minor issues with its writing [34]. As much as I see the series’ antiheroic protagonist as Deadpool’s brother from another mother [60], I do not intend to spread any form of toxic positivity in my reviews [94] [112]. [67]

This has been one hell of a third episode of the second season of Helluva Boss [67]. What could be next in the rings? A new best-selling perfume in the Lust ring [120]? Maybe that can be saved for a third season or a properly concluded Season Two finale. I shall look forward to the fourth, fifth and sixth episodes of the second season. I know I have reviewed the third and fourth episodes of the first season together back in 2021 [125] [126], but I think reviewing the third episode of the second season separately and such has hopefully further prevented the Laura-Reviews-Helluva-Boss formula from going stale and not just because of the episodes of the second season taking longer to produce. To a loyal hazbean, watching a new episode every few months is almost like trying a LINDOR chocolate truffle in a different flavour, but there will always be preferences [2] [58] [59]. I still swear that I do not deserve to be ridiculed for being a fan of the series, yet I do not condone witch-hunting [40]. Moreover, I believe that there are some fans of the Harry Potter franchise who have their own transgender characters in their fanfictions [114]. Stay sinful!
As much as we can spread kindness as it does not cost a penny [86], we still ought to keep minors away from adult content online [80]. I may have been ill during the Christmas break, but I am more than thrilled to review the new episode of Helluva Boss [67]. I understand that the plot of “Seeing Stars” was meant to provide a double meaning for an episode’s title [72], but in terms of pacing and such, I believe that plenty of hazbeans would prefer this one and consider it the Greed Ring version of “The Harvest Moon Festival” with plenty of individuality [67] [74]. [67]

I am even more hyped for Hazbin Hotel after seeing more sneak peeks on the last day of February [45]. I also wonder if there will be any more animated shorts based on the ZooPhobia comics [78]. I still swear that I do not deserve to be ridiculed or even bullied for being a fan of the series as I know it has a few notable flaws [17] [43] [94] [105]. I better hide from Crimson now! Cheerio! [67]
