Hazbeans Are Addicted To A Music Video In Hell

Welcome back to artistic damnation, fellow sinners and admirers of animation for adults! A few days after a certain pink-wigged internet personality managed to sell “gamer girl” condoms [2] [3] [4], a brand new animated music video was uploaded on the YouTube channel ran by the talented and inspirational Vivienne Medrano [17]. Over eight months after the success of the pilot of Hazbin Hotel that roared like the fires of Hell [20], we finally get to see more of Angel Dust, arguably the pilot’s most iconic character in association with a groovy techno song produced by Silva Hound and sang by Michael Kovach and Chi-Chi named “Addict” [27] [28]. Since I have critically praised the pilots of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss [20] [21] [38] [39], I have had some high expectations for the music video before its release as I spotted its two teasers on the official Hazbin Hotel Twitter timeline [6] [7]. Surely there have been other artists drawing their own redesigns of the cast of Hazbin Hotel during its rise in popularity [1], but their canon designs are still being used in the official music video for “Addict” to honour the popularity of a special circle of Hell [17].

Who knows? There can always be fanmade versions of the music video with one of the remixes of the song and alternative designs of Angel Dust [28]. [1]

Anyway, since I have once again been dragged to Hell [24], let the analysis begin! [17]

Once again, the art style and animation are absolutely magnificent [17]. Aside from the enchantingly gorgeous pink spider web behind Angel Dust at the strip club [6] [7] [23], there are striking green flames, dazzling purple flames and convincing clouds of smoke from bombs during a certain daring dame’s destructions. The backgrounds once again have carefully selected colour palettes to suit the energetic beat of the song and emotions of the characters. Additionally, I adore how there is a mesmerising aquarium behind the two antiheroes at some point, which could be proof of the four-armed frenemy’s fondness of pacing through an aquarium [11]. The characters move smoothly and quite frantically as part of the excellent quality put into the successful pilot of Hazbin Hotel maintained in the music video [20], especially during a bird’s-eye view of Cherri Bomb that rotates during her an explosion spree on rooftops. Even though I wonder how the heck would it rain green liquid in Hell, I still thought the raining effect was pretty cool. Medrano’s talented team of artists and animators have given the music video set in her own circle of Hell a familiar lot of artistic value [20] [21], partially bringing back memories of the animated music video that starred a werewolf named JJ [19].

And of course, there is satanic imagery, such as the pentagram behind the antiheroic allies since the intellectual property is set in Hell [20]. Furthermore, how can there be an aquarium in the depths of Hell? Apparently, fish can be sinners on Earth as well unless the fish were borrowed from Heaven. There are brighter and more striking colour palettes for when Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb are feeling empowered. [17]

And there are duller and more depressing colour palettes during the moments when Angel Dust is looking tormented. The animation is excellent, even though the flow of the dollars being earned by Angel Dust for his strutting is slightly choppy. [17]

It turns out that the character who consists of the vocals of Chi-Chi in the music video is Cherri Bomb instead of Molly [17] [38] [39]. At least Chi-Chi’s amazing singing suits Cherri very well as she was voiced by Krystal LaPorte in the pilot [13]. It is quite a relief that she managed to flick one of her bombs away before it exploded out of sight after the solo verse began. Before that, the rebellious nemesis of Sir Pentious is seen launching her bombs on rooftops during her comrade’s performance at the strip club. I love how the one-eyed antiheroine sings along with Angel Dust dresses up with him as a loyal friend of his. I do not doubt that plenty of Hazbeans enjoyed watching their synchronised dance routine at another strip club. I can say that the masterpiece of a music video expands on the alliance and loyalty between Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb [20]. Hell would usually be an intimidating place for terrible people to pay the price, but its Vivziepop circle is sometimes a place for two best friends to get their grooves on [17].

It looks like Cherri Bomb can also throw bottle-shaped bombs in the name of female empowerment in Pentagram City. [17]

But seriously, does she always have to blow something up? Even places where no threat is being aimed at her? [17]

I can tell from the beginning that the music video takes place at some point before the comic that takes place before Charlie Magne, the princess of Hell tells Hell’s population about her dream of helping sinners redeem themselves [8] [9] [10] [20]. Valentino, the pimp accompanied by two female characters as he watches Angel’s performance blows a red breeze of tobacco smoke as a symbol of his lust towards him, especially when the tip of it forms a hand to swiftly stroke his chin [17]. The proactive and promiscuous antihero has been considered physically attractive to many folks in Hell. Hell, he receives disturbing letters from fans to prove that [20]. That still does not justify Valentino’s controlling actions and the terrible impact they have on Angel Dust [8] [9] [10] [14]. Furthermore, I would love to see his reputation get ruined at some point in a line of new episodes of Hazbin Hotel throughout the 2020s [14]. The end of the music video that features an exclusive and far more melodramatic verse of the song takes place at some point after the events of the pilot and seems likely to be featured in the next episode as it shows Angel Dust rejecting Charlie’s attempt at kindness at the hotel [17] [20].

Ah. The music video definitely takes place before the pilot as we see the same fella who engaged in sexual activity with Angel Dust [20]. [17]

There is a less powerful side of Angel Dust shown in a few scenes of the music video [17]. The way he has a meltdown was quite unnerving to watch. Nonetheless, it was touching to see Cherri Bomb attempt to comfort him during some short transitions to a bleaker side during the first chorus, which shows a more humane side of her. The red scent from Valentino’s smoking is also briefly seen coiling his target’s neck and wrists to symbolise his desires to dominate him solely because of his physical attractiveness [8] [9] [10] [14]. The moments when Angel seemed to feel weaker than he would normally seem to feel point to a theory that he is a victim of sexual abuse, especially during the moment he has to kiss Valentino against his own will, which adds more to how he was created at the time Medrano was in a toxic relationship [11] [38] [39]. Even though I was once non-canonically treated to the four-armed sex symbol re-enacting quotes from Bayonetta [30], I am quite saddened by how he ended up being taken advantage of by someone he works for [8] [9] [10] [14], leading to a canonical decline of his mental well-being as shown towards the end of the music video [17].

Even though Angel Dust spouted plenty of sexual humour in the pilot of Hazbin Hotel [20], the abuse he gets haunts him, which explains why he threw some wine glasses across the room in an unstable manner. [17]

I may have been a bit peeved at Angel Dust giving Charlie the finger at the hotel, but I can still that he is still feeling anxious about being confronted by Valentino, even when he is holding the cigarette that spawns a similar red fume to the controlling pimp exhaled at the strip club. The way it was curved into the shape of a heart after he tosses it onto an ashtray could be a sign of him possibly having Stockholm syndrome, but I digress as that is more likely to apply to Vincent Brooks from Catherine [40] [41]. [17]

Let us look into some other characters. At some point during Cherri Bomb’s Michael Bay inspired antics [32], she shortly reflects on another character who briefly resembles Arackniss, the older brother of Angel Dust who is usually tough towards him [12] [17]. Speaking of Arackniss, it was mentioned by Medrano that he would be given a redesign in the show [17], compared to his appearance in Daddy Issues, an animatic created in 2015 during Hazbin Hotel’s development [18]. The female demon who is accompanied by Valentino looks a lot like Millie from Helluva Boss [21]. Since she seems to be a lesbian instead of a male co-worker’s wife [17], could she be Millie’s sister? The reason for Fat Nuggets, the adorable pet pig of Angel Dust being present in Hell might be a reference to how consuming meat from pigs is prohibited in Islam [35]. Nevertheless, he sure brings a more humane side of his owner as somewhat predicted in my analysis of the French dub of the pilot [36] [37]. Aside from how the cast of radically designed characters appears to have slightly increased, let us hope that more episodes of Hazbin Hotel will lead to the antihero’s freedom from Valentino’s sexual manipulation [14].

Arackniss [12]? Is that you? I guess Cherri Bomb does not like you very much. [17]

Despite how I believe that YouTube and its service have gotten worse and worse as the years went on [5] [31] [34], there will always be something new from a content creator to be bewitched by. Plenty of Hazbeans are still curious about what will happen next after the events of the pilot [20], but at least a hellishly stunning music video taking place before the events is one hell of a treat for them in the second half of 2020 [17]. Am I addicted to the feeling and getting higher than the ceiling [27] [28]? Well, I shall hope that the four-armed frenemy will find a way to overcome the sexual abuse he received, along with those being abused in real life finding a way out as well [15] [26] [29] [33]. His development has come a long way since the moment an earlier interpretation of him looked deranged and murderous when unfitting music played back in 2013 [22]. While plenty of old school Nintendo nerds who also declare to be LEGO lovers are sensing a sweet breeze of nostalgia with the LEGO NES set [16], our fellow Hazbeans are addicted to the madness as Hazbin Hotel is their Atlantis [17] [20] [27] [28].

If you do not want the feeling to end, just give in to your inner demons again [27] [28]. [17]
