My Little Pony: A New Generation – Enchanting Potential For Everypony

Howdy, everypony! The official trailer for My Little Pony: A New Generation is here in some different languages, including English [27] [28] [29] [30] [31] [32]. Previously, we have analysed what has been revealed in the official announcement and cast reveal back in July, from the stunning animation for a new cast of characters to who will be voicing them in the English dub [52] [53]. I may find the upcoming film’s title a bit too obvious on what it is meant to be about, but I am still rooting for it to be possibly as phenomenal as the first two episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic when it comes to beginning a brand new era in a new decade [22] [23] [24]. Furthermore, I have seen a lot of potential the film has during our analysis of the announcement trailer [52] [53]. There is still plenty of time to hope for the best outcome possible on Netflix this Autumn [10], possibly just before the time Lucas the Spider has fun and honours the value of friendship on adorable adventures on Cartoonito [40] [41] [42] [43]. I can already imagine cosplayers cosplaying as the new Mane Five if the film becomes critically acclaimed and an animated special and television show that takes place after the events of it get released in 2022 [8] [9].

I would love to watch this film with my boyfriend this September if he is interested. [20]

It has been established that the story takes place many years after the events of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic [7], most notably after its series finale [26]. Unfortunately, in this era of time in Equestria, the Earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi no longer live in harmony and can only tolerate and stick to their own kind [24]. The prime examples of inequality are Earth ponies seeing unicorns as a major threat and one unicorn saying that pegasi are “bad news”. Perhaps they can be the reason why magic made by unicorns became absent. Speaking of unicorns, we can see four out of five members of the new pack wearing fake unicorns to try and avoid persecution in the unicorn population. Surely, the disguises would eventually loosen, leading to the protagonists facing conflict. Additionally, wings must be hidden under cloaks. As far-fetched as the premise of trying to solve the problem with widespread inequality and so much separation seems for being about anthropomorphic ponies, it somewhat reminds me of the issues surrounding prejudice presented in Zootropolis [54]. I wonder how the separation will affect alicorns in perhaps the television show that takes place after the film in 2022 [8] [9] [26].

Surely, the premise of three types of ponies being afraid of and prejudiced towards each other may be rather contrived, but I am always up for a story of encouraging equality and dealing with discrimination. [24]

The main motive of Sunny Starscout appears to be discovering the solution to her generation’s problem with so much hostility towards different species of ponies, as firstly hinted by her father answering her question on why they all just cannot get along [7] [24]. The fact that she lives in a lighthouse on a hill suits the word “sunny” in her name. She amuses that another character has magical powers, but after learning that it vanished, we learn that her main goal in the film is helping her find it again, which could lead to the key of restoring the harmony between all three species of ponies. We also see a rather competitive side of Sunny after we see a zany design of an arcade cabinet that parodies the Dance Dance Revolution and Just Dance franchises [3] [47]. I shall root for her throughout her quest to end the separation and bring back harmony among ponykind [7] [24]. Could Argyle Sunshine, her father still be alive and well by the time she grows up into the adventurous protagonist of the film [52] [53]? I sure hope so, so that he can see equality and tolerance for all ponies happening again [24].

The aim to restore equality between Earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi would make Sunny Starscout’s character worth rooting for as if she was a human being becoming an anti-racism activist [7] [54]. [24]

What can I say about Izzy Moonbow, other than how I adore her design and that I find her as adorable as Talking Angela in My Talking Angela 2 [45]? Even though the Earth ponies are completely afraid of her for some reason which is due to the lack of equality within the new society of Equestria, she remains oblivious yet cheery as she believes they were just playing hide and seek. Considering how many other unicorns seem extremely depressed in their residence, that could lead to some development for her when it comes to remaining optimistic while almost everyone else is feeling the exact opposite. As much as I sincerely do not recommend the scenario of depressed unicorns to Deadpool [4], I believe the depression among the unicorn population is because of the inhumane paranoia towards them from Earth ponies. Unfortunately, even Izzy is not free from being prejudiced as she expresses distrust in pegasi [24]. However, that will be changed as she and Sunny befriend two other characters. The portrayal of Izzy so far reminds me of Pinkie Pie from the Friendship Is Magic era [49], which is another plus when it comes to honouring the success of it in the 2010s.

I can safely say that Izzy Moonbow is pretty much Pinkie Pie in a Twilight Sparkle costume. She is also as adorable as Cream the Rabbit in her unicorn outfit in the Glitterbomb Bash Event in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle [38]. Perhaps she can be a good cooking assistant for Goofy or Talking Angela [45] [48]. [24]

What about the other ponies? Hitch Trailblazer seems to be a wannabe hero, having brought a filly back to his “mother”, but I think there can be some deeper development than that later in the plot as we later see him as part of the Mane Five. Pipp Petals’ fondness of makeovers during the quest for equality somewhat reminds me of Rarity from the Friendship Is Magic era [25], which is another sign of the movie honouring the legacy of the fourth generation. Zipp Storm appears to be very calm after meeting an Earth pony and a unicorn, referring to her day as “a lot more interesting” [24]. Alphabittle, the buff grey unicorn appears to be the competitive expert of Just Prance. Queen Haven makes an appearance on the red carpet during a news report, making me chuckle a little as she requests for no photos of her, but then suddenly contradicts herself. Other than that, I am sure that moments of her royal duties in her castle will be almost as enchanting and graceful as the latest videos by Princess Liana Rose on her YouTube channel [35] [36] [37]. We are yet to see the portrayals of Deputy Sprout, Phyllis and Zoom Zephyrwing within a big variety of personalities [10] [52] [53].

Aside from Hitch’s heroism and Pipp’s fondness for beauty, I wonder what the most notable traits of Zipp will be. [24]

Lastly, we see a small variety of other species who can be classified as “critters” due to their size, compared to the ponies [24]. A flock of adorable bunnies applaud Hitch with their ears, which is a sign of creativity put into a new interpretation of Equestria. We also see a red crab with big claws between two white seagulls with blue wings, like the one that fainted when Izzy Moonbow showed up at the village of Maretime Bay. The beady black eyes of the critters make them look so cute, resembling the iconic “kawaii” art style that Hello Kitty consists of [11] [12] [39]. I wonder if there can be any pet dragons for a pegasus. Even though Spike the Dragon was Twilight Sparkle’s assistant in Friendship Is Magic [26], it would make sense for baby dragons to be assistants for pegasi in the new generation since they can fly too, right? On second thought, I think we have a new creature for them that is a dog-like being with wings called a Pomeranian. The Pomeranian named “Cloudpuff” sure is cute [6], despite showing hostility at Sunny and Izzy by growling at them solely for being an Earth pony and a unicorn [24].

The critters may look cute, but can some of them be tough on the inside? [24]

Welp, this moment answers my question. [24]

Reflecting on how the film will be a comedy adventure film [24], I will admit that some moments in the trailer cracked me up. How Hitch just unhesitatingly have a filly back to a full-grown Earth pony who is NOT his mother is amusing as it still shows his ambitions in being seen as a hero, in spite of it being unneeded due to closed-minded prejudice against a harmless unicorn. I just loved how Izzy tried to impress Sunny by opening a can of baked beans with her unicorn and let her enthusiasm shine, even when the beans were literally spilt onto the floor. As I can see some characteristics of Pinkie Pie in her [49], I am sure we will see even more funny moments of her in the film [24]. As previously stated, I also faintly tittered at how Queen Haven demanded none of the photographers taking a photo of her, but then giving into vanity. The examples of light-hearted humour shown in the trailer is yet another sign of what made Friendship Is Magic a success among both little girls AND young men being taken into consideration [49].

Let us look at the impressive visuals once again. All of the backgrounds shown in the trailer are vibrant and detailed, including the village of Maretime Bay where many other Earth ponies live [24]. The bedroom for a younger Sunny Starscout is very child-like, similar to the bedroom for Boo from Monsters, Inc. [18]. It is quite mesmerising how her table lamp projects brightly lit silhouettes of the three types of ponies, representing the equality that used to be there. And of course, we once again see the figures of the Mane Six from the Friendship is Magic era for good old times’ sake. I am highly impressed at how the Just Prance cabinet is designed, especially how the dance pads have four extra panels, ready for a rehash of the moment when Dr. Cockroach dances masterfully to crack a code in Monsters VS. Aliens [19]. The city where pegasi reside is heavenly, consisting of some vibes of Cherub Town from the fourth episode of Helluva Boss [17]. As well as exceptional writing and intriguing character development, there ought to be incredible animation for a remarkable outcome of a concept being brought into action [7] [24]. Moreover, the humour and the art style in the trailer somewhat remind me of the Hello Pinkie Pie series [25].

I am also fond of the ambition put into the three different landscapes during the montages of Sunny and Izzy trotting far away from Maretime Bay. Oh! And Z-Heights is a parody of T-Mobile [15] [16]! Bonus points from yours truly! [24]

We all knew the fifth generation of My Little Pony was coming at some point in the 2020s [7] [24]. With outstanding animation, detailed backgrounds, a seemingly unique cast of characters and a theme song dealing with prejudice and restoring harmony, I strongly believe that the film can excel. Surely, this decade has not been enlightening so far for many of us, but we are not alone and there are many coping mechanisms to help us keep going. A new way of coping could be the outcome of My Little Pony: A New Generation. As for the current era of animation for adults, I am dying to see the sixth episode of Helluva Boss [13]. Soon, we are yet to see and analyse the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 after the announcement that Knuckles will make an appearance, voiced by Idris Elba [5] [44]. I sure hope that equality and tolerance for Earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi will soon be restored in My Little Pony: A New Generation on Netflix this September [24]. Will the film be an enlightening beginning of a new generation…or shall we just keep pretending the aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars [1] [21] [50] [51]?

MordeTwi – A Wish That Could Be Used Right Now

Do you miss how life was in the early 2010s? Well, this viral sensation could be for you. I know that it is most certainly for me since I used to watch Regular Show when I was a teenager and I will miss the fourth generation of the My Little Pony franchise dearly after the official establishment of the fifth generation [26] [27]. Who would have thought Mordecai from Regular Show and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic would once again be a remarkable crossover pairing, in spite of Regular Show ending back in 2017 and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ending in 2019 [12] [22]? The very moment of them yearning to be together that originated on DeviantArt back in 2012 has regained relevance and won the hearts of so many fans of Western animation [6]. You must be wondering what the artist will think of their old artwork suddenly becoming a trend nine years later. If I was the artist, I would be bewildered, but flattered and honoured. Without further ado, let us see why a blue jay and a magical unicorn could really use a wish from an aeroplane that is like a shooting star [24].

As a pegasister, I will always remember the outstanding impact Friendship Is Magic had on the 2010s in terms of internet culture. [10]

MordeTwi has my nomination for “Best Love Story Of 2021”. Well, at least in terms of the revival of a pairing that started about a decade ago trending [6]. Allow me to explain why. [19]

The apprentice of Princess Celestia fell in love with a bird who works at a park at some point before she earned wings and became an alicorn [10] [11]. This truly brings out those familiar vibes of the early 2010s during the rise of the brony and pegasister communities, even though it can be interpreted that she is already an alicorn in her yearning for Mordecai’s love [8]. Furthermore, this is indeed a brand new headcanon worth being infatuated with. In the present, I am hoping for the four-legged bookworm to be happy with her lover since my latest manicure is inspired by her iconic design [23]. Even though she is very hardworking and dedicated to making Princess Celestia proud while Mordecai slacks off with Rigby, his colleague and best friend, which infuriates their boss, the polar opposites can balance one another out since a plus and a minus would attract [20]. This indeed would be quite similar to how Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde were on opposite ends of the law in Zootropolis, but they eventually developed a companionship that resulted in fans of the film shipping them [29]. Moreover, two opposites who yearn to attract in an interspecies relationship is worthy of rooting for [20] [24].

Move over, Edward and Bella [21]! There is a new Twilight saga! [10]

It seems like the dating advice Mordecai received from a bunch of crude, boisterous and non-magical unicorns was useful after all [3]. Although he only spoke poetry with Pops and Rigby in a rap battle [13], I believe that he has the potential to rap passionately in association with how he feels about being separated from Twilight. Hopefully, no amount of censorship for the airing of Regular Show in the United Kingdom during its global run can stop the deep-voiced blue jay from seeing his sweet purple unicorn again on the internet in 2021 [17] [20]. Besides, she is probably the only unicorn in cartoon history he does not loathe as she is nothing like that flock of sleazy unicorns [20]. I knew he would feel the same way about her as he is also well-educated, despite confusion on whether he earned a high school diploma or not and a little more mature and responsible than Rigby [15], which would mean that how he and Twilight Sparkle are polar opposites at least consist of some similarities to make their love for one another even more understandable. Apart from Shrek and Shadow the Hedgehog [7], no crossover pairing has become as iconic as Mordecai and Twilight Sparkle [6].

Since Mordecai had always wanted to date a girl named “The Power” [18], could that be a nickname for Twilight Sparkle that will bring them even closer? [14]

The two forbidden lovers are seen sitting in what looks like a green field that is perhaps beyond Equestria and the Park managed by Benson and Skips [16]. It is set at night, meaning that they must pretend that an aeroplane would be a shooting star for granting a specific wish [6]. Presumably, Mordecai is sat all alone, separated from his darling Twilight as the two of them are shedding tears. It can be argued that the two lovers are sat together at the same spot but facing away from each other, which could be a sign of them having to have been separated against their will. You can tell they never wanted to be apart by how they are crying simultaneously, which makes the scenario more likely to feature them sitting far away from each other. But wait! What if Mordecai is imagining that he and Twilight are sitting next to each other back-to-back and that she is imagining the same thing? Even though they are apparently unable to find each other with broken hearts, there is hope that they will be repaired, as good as new as a recently sent text message with a purple heart emoji and a blue heart emoji.

The song “Airplanes” by B.o.B. and Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore is perfect for the moment Mordecai and Twilight Sparkle long to reunite [1]. Apparently separated, they are so desperate to be together that they have no choice but to imagine that a plane is a shooting star so that they can make a wish [6]. And that wish is for them to be happily reunited. The fact that the song was released in 2010 is another part of the early 2010s theme around the rather ironic crossover pairing [1]. As previously mentioned, Mordecai would do the rapping verses after singing the next line of the first chorus after Twilight sings the first one. I can already imagine a cover of the song performed by J.G. Quintel and Tara Strong being uploaded onto YouTube and over a million views of its music video in honour of the tragic love story of a blue jay and a unicorn wanting to reunite. Surely, a cover of “Airplanes Pt II” would feature Rigby singing and rapping in Eminem’s role [2], but perhaps that will be saved for some time in 2022.

Surely, Twilight can alternatively pretend that a white pegasus or alicorn flying is like a shooting star. [10]

I can see that deep down, Mordecai could use another wish to prevent him and his beloved unicorn from ever being separated again. [5]

In conclusion, I am rooting for Mordecai from Regular Show and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic to be together without being judged for it after they pretend that aeroplanes soaring through the twinkly night sky are exactly like dazzling shooting stars [24]. The whole scenario is quite like the premise of Your Name, which is about two young people who are unsure if they really know each other but are determined to meet each other nonetheless [28]. As much as I am looking forward to the overall outcome of the fifth generation of the My Little Pony franchise, I believe it would have been satisfying to see the uncensored version of Regular Show air on Adult Swim [25], which would be the eventual release of “Rude Removal”, a lost episode of Dexter’s Laboratory back in 2013 all over again [4]. Move over back into the portal to Hell, Moxxie and Millie from Helluva Boss [9]! There might be a wedding for the average bluejay and brainy unicorn in about late 2021 after a heart-breaking separation that resulted in wishing upon aeroplanes as if they were stars. When are they going to meet after they express their despair from their separation? Who knows?

I strongly believe that the passengers on said aeroplane would root for Mordecai and Twilight Sparkle to be together too. [10]

Please make the wish come true! Again, this is without a doubt the best love story of 2021! [14]

My Little Pony: A New Generation – New Ponies And Potential

      Bronies and pegasisters, during the beginning of the second half of 2021, I have decided to gallop through what the forthcoming fifth generation has to offer like an alicorn going to a party hosted by Pinkie Pie [19]. When I was a child, my sister and I had a tea party set starring Sweet Berry and a waterfall set starring Satin Splash from the Magic Motion Friends series within the second generation of the franchise [28] [30]. As a young adult, I am quite delighted to say that the fifth generation will begin this September with a new animated film on Netflix, though I am honestly not too sure about the film’s final title for some regions [7] [18] [23] [24]. The term “A New Generation” sounds a bit too generic for a new film’s title to me and states the blatantly obvious, but at least it is ultimately not misleading and draws in the curiosity and interest of a previous generation’s demographics, even though I honestly prefer the Malaysian title “My Little Pony: Pony Tale” as it features quite a pun and reminds me of My Little Pony Tales [16] [25]. Aside from two promising titles, I shall express what I think of what has been revealed so far for our fellow bronies and pegasisters.

I know some of our fellow bronies and pegasisters have their hopes for G5 too. I quite like the design of the brand new logo as it is appeared to be coated in glitter, quite like a rare Pixel Chix interactive toy that was purple and glittery [1] [2]. [7]

Let us take a look at the brand new cast of mane characters. Heh, get it? The stars of My Little Pony: A New Generation include:

•         Sunny Starscout, an Earth pony voiced by Vanessa Hudgens [18] [23] [24]
  
•         Izzy Moonbow, a unicorn voiced by Kimiko Glenn [18] [23] [24]
  
•         Hitch Trailblazer, an Earth pony voiced by James Marsden [18] [23] [24]
  
•         Pipp Petals, a unicorn voiced by Sofia Carson [18] [23] [24]
  
•         Zipp Storm, a pegasus voiced by Liza Koshy [18] [23] [24]
  

Just imagine Sonic the Hedgehog or E.B. from Hop meeting Hitch [14] [32]! I think Pipp and Zipp could be just like non-identical twin sisters, in spite of how they are not related due to how their names rhyme [7] [15]. Part of me is glad that there will be a completely new cast of main characters for the fifth generation instead of new interpretations of the Mane Six from the fourth one as we do not want to risk suddenly decreasing the likeability of the iconic G4 stars again, right? Tsk tsk, certain moments of the first season of Pony Life [40] [41]. However, I am quite saddened that the Mane Six from the Friendship Is Magic era are deceased [4] [6] [8] [9] [10] [11]. Nevertheless, it is quite interesting to see that the premise of the upcoming film takes place years after the finale of Friendship Is Magic [7] [20].
 

Sunny’s hobby in roller skating is a sign of her having an adventurous personality [18] [23] [24]. How memorable will the Mane Five of the forthcoming film be [7]? [24]

I am not too sure about ponies using smartphones since that would be impossible for them to do in real life. Oh well. Forget logic. [24]

There will also be some supporting characters in A New Generation [7], just like how there are many throughout the Friendship Is Magic era. I just wonder how much their portrayals will leave some impact on the plot. The members of the supporting cast are:

•         Sprout, an Earth pony voiced by Ken Jeong [15]
  
•         Queen Haven, a royal pegasus voiced by Jane Krakowski [15]
  
•         Argyle Sunshine, an Earth pony voiced by Michael KcKean [15]
  
•         Alphabittle, an Earth pony voiced by Phil LaMarr [15]
  
•         Phyllis, an Earth pony voiced by Elizabeth Perkins [15]
  

Queen Haven appears to be the new ruler of Equestria, but without a horn [15], leading to her eventually being compared to Princess Celestia from the Friendship Is Magic era [38]. Speaking of Celestia, will alicorns eventually be introduced in the fifth generation after 2021? Argyle Sunshine is Sunny’s father [5]. How overbearing could he be to her in the film? Hopefully, the Phyllis in the film will be far nicer than the Phyllis from the Animal Crossing series [15] [26] [27]. Both the main and supporting characters ought to be varied with their own traits and developments rather than one-dimensional personalities, which would be part of honouring what made the Friendship Is Magic a magical success throughout the 2010s [16].

How fascinating will the portrayal and development of each character be in the movie? How effective can their contributions to the plot be? [15]

The animation for the upcoming film is quite exceptional [18] [23] [24]. The choice of making it 3D is indeed refreshing as the animated adaptions of the other generations were in 2D except for Hello Pinkie Pie, Pinkie Pie’s talk show in the fourth generation [19]. The colours of the ponies look vibrant and they have beautifully rendered manes and tails, especially Izzy [18] [21] [23] [24. The detailed backgrounds include Sunny’s bedroom that features a certain pack on her shelf, along with other symbolism of the Friendship Is Magic era as a shout-out to our bronies and pegasisters [7]. As shown in the trailer and a promotional animation, the movements of the ponies are expressive and lively [21], close to Pixar and modern Disney standards [3] [31] [37]. The overall art style and animation sure are as life-like and adorable as the visuals in My Talking Angela 2 and the promotional videos for it [33] [34], making the film highly promising for both the target audience and the unexpected audience. As much as I am highly interested in seeing a new flock of ponies in 3D [18] [23] [24], I would also like to see them in 2D animation in perhaps a web series that takes place after the events of the movie for the sake of even more ambition.

I like how the buildings behind Hitch are varied in different base colours, which adds to the cheery and colourful vibes of a fictional village where anthropomorphic ponies reside [16]. [25]

And calling all readers! The detail of the new ponies’ hooves reminds me of Pony Life [22]! And I wonder if this lovely background will be in the film or if it is just exclusive for promoting [18] [23]. [24]

In conclusion, I see a lot of colourful potential in what has been revealed for the beginning of a new generation of the My Little Pony franchise to go alongside a new line of toys [17]. I strongly believe that with a variety of character development portrayed by the main and side characters and some positive messages for the youth of today, the next generation will lead to a new wave of fanmade phenomena within a new generation of the fandom. Aside from appealing 3D animation in the movie, I would be up for seeing the characters and such in 2D animation that is as exceptional as the animation in Friendship Is Magic. Who knows what else awaits us in late 2021? A second season of Helluva Boss for the much more mature side of modern animation [13]? Us Hazbeans know that Blitzo is quite the brony [12]. Beyond of days of Sundance having her mane and tail combed in front of a floral vanity set within the Magic Motion Ponies series from the second generation [29], we have our hopes up for the best outcome of My Little Pony: A New Generation. Gallop on, everypony! And happy Fourth of July to all American bronies and pegasisters out there [39]!
