My Little Pony: A New Generation – Enchanting Potential For Everypony

Howdy, everypony! The official trailer for My Little Pony: A New Generation is here in some different languages, including English [27] [28] [29] [30] [31] [32]. Previously, we have analysed what has been revealed in the official announcement and cast reveal back in July, from the stunning animation for a new cast of characters to who will be voicing them in the English dub [52] [53]. I may find the upcoming film’s title a bit too obvious on what it is meant to be about, but I am still rooting for it to be possibly as phenomenal as the first two episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic when it comes to beginning a brand new era in a new decade [22] [23] [24]. Furthermore, I have seen a lot of potential the film has during our analysis of the announcement trailer [52] [53]. There is still plenty of time to hope for the best outcome possible on Netflix this Autumn [10], possibly just before the time Lucas the Spider has fun and honours the value of friendship on adorable adventures on Cartoonito [40] [41] [42] [43]. I can already imagine cosplayers cosplaying as the new Mane Five if the film becomes critically acclaimed and an animated special and television show that takes place after the events of it get released in 2022 [8] [9].

I would love to watch this film with my boyfriend this September if he is interested. [20]

It has been established that the story takes place many years after the events of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic [7], most notably after its series finale [26]. Unfortunately, in this era of time in Equestria, the Earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi no longer live in harmony and can only tolerate and stick to their own kind [24]. The prime examples of inequality are Earth ponies seeing unicorns as a major threat and one unicorn saying that pegasi are “bad news”. Perhaps they can be the reason why magic made by unicorns became absent. Speaking of unicorns, we can see four out of five members of the new pack wearing fake unicorns to try and avoid persecution in the unicorn population. Surely, the disguises would eventually loosen, leading to the protagonists facing conflict. Additionally, wings must be hidden under cloaks. As far-fetched as the premise of trying to solve the problem with widespread inequality and so much separation seems for being about anthropomorphic ponies, it somewhat reminds me of the issues surrounding prejudice presented in Zootropolis [54]. I wonder how the separation will affect alicorns in perhaps the television show that takes place after the film in 2022 [8] [9] [26].

Surely, the premise of three types of ponies being afraid of and prejudiced towards each other may be rather contrived, but I am always up for a story of encouraging equality and dealing with discrimination. [24]

The main motive of Sunny Starscout appears to be discovering the solution to her generation’s problem with so much hostility towards different species of ponies, as firstly hinted by her father answering her question on why they all just cannot get along [7] [24]. The fact that she lives in a lighthouse on a hill suits the word “sunny” in her name. She amuses that another character has magical powers, but after learning that it vanished, we learn that her main goal in the film is helping her find it again, which could lead to the key of restoring the harmony between all three species of ponies. We also see a rather competitive side of Sunny after we see a zany design of an arcade cabinet that parodies the Dance Dance Revolution and Just Dance franchises [3] [47]. I shall root for her throughout her quest to end the separation and bring back harmony among ponykind [7] [24]. Could Argyle Sunshine, her father still be alive and well by the time she grows up into the adventurous protagonist of the film [52] [53]? I sure hope so, so that he can see equality and tolerance for all ponies happening again [24].

The aim to restore equality between Earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi would make Sunny Starscout’s character worth rooting for as if she was a human being becoming an anti-racism activist [7] [54]. [24]

What can I say about Izzy Moonbow, other than how I adore her design and that I find her as adorable as Talking Angela in My Talking Angela 2 [45]? Even though the Earth ponies are completely afraid of her for some reason which is due to the lack of equality within the new society of Equestria, she remains oblivious yet cheery as she believes they were just playing hide and seek. Considering how many other unicorns seem extremely depressed in their residence, that could lead to some development for her when it comes to remaining optimistic while almost everyone else is feeling the exact opposite. As much as I sincerely do not recommend the scenario of depressed unicorns to Deadpool [4], I believe the depression among the unicorn population is because of the inhumane paranoia towards them from Earth ponies. Unfortunately, even Izzy is not free from being prejudiced as she expresses distrust in pegasi [24]. However, that will be changed as she and Sunny befriend two other characters. The portrayal of Izzy so far reminds me of Pinkie Pie from the Friendship Is Magic era [49], which is another plus when it comes to honouring the success of it in the 2010s.

I can safely say that Izzy Moonbow is pretty much Pinkie Pie in a Twilight Sparkle costume. She is also as adorable as Cream the Rabbit in her unicorn outfit in the Glitterbomb Bash Event in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle [38]. Perhaps she can be a good cooking assistant for Goofy or Talking Angela [45] [48]. [24]

What about the other ponies? Hitch Trailblazer seems to be a wannabe hero, having brought a filly back to his “mother”, but I think there can be some deeper development than that later in the plot as we later see him as part of the Mane Five. Pipp Petals’ fondness of makeovers during the quest for equality somewhat reminds me of Rarity from the Friendship Is Magic era [25], which is another sign of the movie honouring the legacy of the fourth generation. Zipp Storm appears to be very calm after meeting an Earth pony and a unicorn, referring to her day as “a lot more interesting” [24]. Alphabittle, the buff grey unicorn appears to be the competitive expert of Just Prance. Queen Haven makes an appearance on the red carpet during a news report, making me chuckle a little as she requests for no photos of her, but then suddenly contradicts herself. Other than that, I am sure that moments of her royal duties in her castle will be almost as enchanting and graceful as the latest videos by Princess Liana Rose on her YouTube channel [35] [36] [37]. We are yet to see the portrayals of Deputy Sprout, Phyllis and Zoom Zephyrwing within a big variety of personalities [10] [52] [53].

Aside from Hitch’s heroism and Pipp’s fondness for beauty, I wonder what the most notable traits of Zipp will be. [24]

Lastly, we see a small variety of other species who can be classified as “critters” due to their size, compared to the ponies [24]. A flock of adorable bunnies applaud Hitch with their ears, which is a sign of creativity put into a new interpretation of Equestria. We also see a red crab with big claws between two white seagulls with blue wings, like the one that fainted when Izzy Moonbow showed up at the village of Maretime Bay. The beady black eyes of the critters make them look so cute, resembling the iconic “kawaii” art style that Hello Kitty consists of [11] [12] [39]. I wonder if there can be any pet dragons for a pegasus. Even though Spike the Dragon was Twilight Sparkle’s assistant in Friendship Is Magic [26], it would make sense for baby dragons to be assistants for pegasi in the new generation since they can fly too, right? On second thought, I think we have a new creature for them that is a dog-like being with wings called a Pomeranian. The Pomeranian named “Cloudpuff” sure is cute [6], despite showing hostility at Sunny and Izzy by growling at them solely for being an Earth pony and a unicorn [24].

The critters may look cute, but can some of them be tough on the inside? [24]

Welp, this moment answers my question. [24]

Reflecting on how the film will be a comedy adventure film [24], I will admit that some moments in the trailer cracked me up. How Hitch just unhesitatingly have a filly back to a full-grown Earth pony who is NOT his mother is amusing as it still shows his ambitions in being seen as a hero, in spite of it being unneeded due to closed-minded prejudice against a harmless unicorn. I just loved how Izzy tried to impress Sunny by opening a can of baked beans with her unicorn and let her enthusiasm shine, even when the beans were literally spilt onto the floor. As I can see some characteristics of Pinkie Pie in her [49], I am sure we will see even more funny moments of her in the film [24]. As previously stated, I also faintly tittered at how Queen Haven demanded none of the photographers taking a photo of her, but then giving into vanity. The examples of light-hearted humour shown in the trailer is yet another sign of what made Friendship Is Magic a success among both little girls AND young men being taken into consideration [49].

Let us look at the impressive visuals once again. All of the backgrounds shown in the trailer are vibrant and detailed, including the village of Maretime Bay where many other Earth ponies live [24]. The bedroom for a younger Sunny Starscout is very child-like, similar to the bedroom for Boo from Monsters, Inc. [18]. It is quite mesmerising how her table lamp projects brightly lit silhouettes of the three types of ponies, representing the equality that used to be there. And of course, we once again see the figures of the Mane Six from the Friendship is Magic era for good old times’ sake. I am highly impressed at how the Just Prance cabinet is designed, especially how the dance pads have four extra panels, ready for a rehash of the moment when Dr. Cockroach dances masterfully to crack a code in Monsters VS. Aliens [19]. The city where pegasi reside is heavenly, consisting of some vibes of Cherub Town from the fourth episode of Helluva Boss [17]. As well as exceptional writing and intriguing character development, there ought to be incredible animation for a remarkable outcome of a concept being brought into action [7] [24]. Moreover, the humour and the art style in the trailer somewhat remind me of the Hello Pinkie Pie series [25].

I am also fond of the ambition put into the three different landscapes during the montages of Sunny and Izzy trotting far away from Maretime Bay. Oh! And Z-Heights is a parody of T-Mobile [15] [16]! Bonus points from yours truly! [24]

We all knew the fifth generation of My Little Pony was coming at some point in the 2020s [7] [24]. With outstanding animation, detailed backgrounds, a seemingly unique cast of characters and a theme song dealing with prejudice and restoring harmony, I strongly believe that the film can excel. Surely, this decade has not been enlightening so far for many of us, but we are not alone and there are many coping mechanisms to help us keep going. A new way of coping could be the outcome of My Little Pony: A New Generation. As for the current era of animation for adults, I am dying to see the sixth episode of Helluva Boss [13]. Soon, we are yet to see and analyse the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 after the announcement that Knuckles will make an appearance, voiced by Idris Elba [5] [44]. I sure hope that equality and tolerance for Earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi will soon be restored in My Little Pony: A New Generation on Netflix this September [24]. Will the film be an enlightening beginning of a new generation…or shall we just keep pretending the aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars [1] [21] [50] [51]?
