The Faithful Episodes And Further Potential Of God’s Gang (Feat. Nimrod Avraham May)

Disclaimer:
This is an analysis of an animated web series that contains one parody of an infamous far-right hate group in real life in one episode and one brief sample of hellish imagery regarding the portrayals of another bunch of antagonists. Reader discretion is advised.
Unlike certain cartoons and animated films that were well-meaningly produced under a religious agenda, but are either badly animated [99] [101], mediocrely written [79], downright bizarre [101], infamously manipulative to a young audience or have even responded to criticism in a questionable manner [31] [71] [99] [100] [102], God’s Gang has an important message of diversity and tolerance without any Bible, Qur’an, Tanakh or Vedas-thumping [85]. And yes, I am not the only non-religious person to study and praise the theme of the show for how its aim is quite like how the character Mahboub was welcomed to Rechov Sumsum to unite Israeli and Arab with his bilingualism [121]. After the release of the fourth episode that was trustworthily teased as a continuation of the plot of the previous one titled “We Didn’t Start The Fire” after the 45th edition of the Brit Awards and the 97th Academy Awards and two days before International Women’s Day [14] [48] [49] [55] [60] [65] [72], the fifth one got teased on Saint Patrick’s Day [50] [135]. So, let us expand on why the animated series is praiseworthy, whether the viewer is a theist, an atheist or an agnostic as we also discuss the fourth episode known as “We Didn’t Start The Fire: Part 2”, along with the third part that was released nearly two weeks afterwards just before a conclusion [37] [47] [109].
A week before the announcements of Mummy Pig’s third pregnancy on Good Morning Britain and the new animation style in the forthcoming revival of the Shrek film series titled “Shrek 5” [57] [119] [125] [126], as well as the celebration of Pokémon Day and Pochacco’s birthday [61] [107], we discussed how recommendable God’s Gang is, especially for its message of spiritual diversity [109] [129] [130], even without preachiness as a reminder of the Super Best Friends from South Park [122]. [46] [47] [51] [54]
Previously, God’s Gang got lost in the woods but sprang into action to protect innocent woodland creatures from a devastating forest fire that was finally put out by a mysterious new character who I suspected could be a representative of Shintoism [46] [129] [130]. The second part of the latest adventure is centred on the team needing to level up, according to the teasers [47] [48] [55]. As usual, the heroic motives of God’s Gang are as humane as the Burka Avenger fighting for young girls’ rights to access education [59] [64] [117] [118], but in “We Didn’t Start The Fire: Part 2”, they are taught to overcome what traits of theirs can hinder them to an extent [47], somehow like Mickey, Donald and Goofy eventually learning to cast their flaws and insecurities aside as the three musketeers [78], which leads to some consistency in the third part [51]. I still suspect that there could be a diligent and sophisticated new female member representing Catholicism named “Catholynn” as it is also important to acknowledge that people who follow different denominations of a religion can get along too and there could be a little more female empowerment in the series to balance it with the strength of the men to also provide gender equality within a 3:3 ratio [62] [129] [130].
I believe that Chris Cross will master a leap of faith in the fourth chapter of the “We Didn’t Start The Fire” saga which would be another example of character development aside from Ninjew overcoming his insecurity about his height [47] [129] [130]. I am always up for character growth. [47]
Despite a few disturbingly misogynistic verses in the Quran [108], I can see that SuMuslim would always be respectful to female characters since sexual assault is considered haram [40] [82] [84] [90]. Aside from that, I quite like how he references the year 2012 in the third part of the “We Didn’t Start The Fire” saga [50] [51]. [47]
The new ally not only informs the team that the Corpo-Creeps plan to flood Earth with fear…or greed, but reveals herself as a woman named “Kungfuda”, representing Buddhism [47]. Her role as a new mentor is a reminder of wise marital arts masters from other cartoons, such as Master Fung from Xiaolin Showdown and Panda from Skunk Fu!, as well as an old character of mine from my college days known as “Grandma Autumn” [33] [89] [112] [113] [135]. As clichéd as her portrayal as a wise mistress is, it is still effective in terms of her usefulness and likeability as a supporting character and the fact that she is a seemingly old but athletic woman at least makes her portrayal as a mentor refreshing [47]. Her colour palette reminds me of Madame Foster from Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends and I am surprised that her lips are a light shade of purple instead of pink or red [115]. Aside from Kungfuda being a representative of Buddhism [47], chances are that there could be new allies representing other religions, such as Wicca, Taoism and Rastafarianism in the future of the series [83] [133], which would take quite a lot of research and thoughtfulness put into writing to accomplish but would still enrich the series’ message of pantheistic diversity [129] [130].

Aside from a bit of wit that makes her fit into the quirky and light-hearted tone of the series [47] [51] [129] [130], Kungfuda is an effective new ally who represents Buddhism. I do not doubt that Lisa Simpson who became a Buddhist in the sixth episode of the thirteenth season of The Simpsons and Princess Peach as either a ninja or king fu fighter would love to be mentored by her [87] [98]. [47]
And yes, Dogma is still the sassy but informative canine in the sky. Too bad she backed out of being backup due to fear of the fire [47]. “Could she learn to conquer her fear in the next chapter?” I asked myself before the release of Part Three [51]. “That would be some great character development for her, even if it may not be as big as Charlie’s throughout the story of All Dogs Go To Heaven [2]. Well, I suppose that would be a swell moment in the fourth part.” [47]
Aside from the Corpo-Creeps representing demons from Hell as their motive is revealed to be partially inspired by the deadly sin of greed and how I wonder if they get assigned by a dog who is NOT in Heaven [46] [47], which sounds awfully familiar [1], the villains are ultimately not blatant representatives of sins and Atheism, compared to the villains in the Bibleman lore for the sake of creativity not being overshadowed by a pandering religious agenda [16] [99]. As previously discussed, two notable examples are the aliens known as “Reptilios” and the Really Mad Scientists from the “Love Is In The Airhole” trilogy [129] [130]. There is nothing wrong with even a villain being spiritual, but there ought to be a new antagonist who is a notorious cult leader to teach the series’ target audience to further acknowledge the differences between the well-meaning aspects of following a religion and the dangerous antics of a cult [123] [124]. Aside from how saints wonder when another member of the TTT will show up after the fourth chapter of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” [42] [45] [129] [130], sinners wonder when a mermaid demon named “Quiver” will appear as Mimzy’s rival and if the character Villa is still canon but in an updated design in a future season of Hazbin Hotel [10] [11].

It would be vital to provide a passable variety of villains in an animated series as Skunk Fu! could have left a bigger impact with more villains than just Dragon, Baboon and his army of monkeys, as well as a few more female supporting characters that provided some stronger character explorations than just being a femme fatale or a wise old lady fond of cooking, especially if it got renewed for a second season, which, unfortunately, never happened [33] [96] [135]. [47]
Despite a few framerate issues I noticed during Kungfuda’s introduction, quite like how I noticed some frame rate issues in “The Harvest Moon Festival”, the fifth episode of the first season of Helluva Boss [76] [127] [128], the animation remains lively by rather basic but eye-catching standards in modern 2D animation [46] [47] [51]. I am especially impressed by the smoke effect from her staff and the green fog across the fungi in the third chapter and its teaser [50] [51]. Other pretty good effects include beams of sunlight through the windows in the scene when Kungfuda tells her trainees about the fumes of fear [47]. The overall designs of the team are quite culturally accurate and modest, apart from Chris Cross’ partially exposed chest as a vague reminder of Rayman’s Elvis Presley cosplay in the Wii version of Rayman Raving Rabbids [116], thus maintaining a child-friendly image for a series with a message of tolerance [47] [129] [130]. As earthy as the palettes of the forest, maze and temple are in “We Didn’t Start The Fire: Part 2”, they are rather laid back, allowing the characters with proportionately thick outlines to stand out [47]. Again, the animation in God’s Gang is not as advanced as the animation in Lackadaisy, but it is still worth a Merit if you are familiar with postgraduate grades in the United Kingdom [129] [130].
And yes, I consider the anatomy styles of God’s Gang a notable upgrade of the designs of Scooby-Doo’s human pals in Be Cool, Scooby-Doo [36]. Do not get me started with how horrible Shaggy and Fred’s legs look in that show. [47]
Things sure got freaky with the menacing designs of the Corpo Creeps’ building and such! They would fit in the Pride Ring of Hell in Helluva Boss [75] [129] [130]! [51]
Aside from how “We Didn’t Start The Fire: Part 2” is well-paced, especially as Kungfuda trains the team [47], I am partially expecting the seventh episode to be as short as “What’s Cooking” [54], as inconsistent a short after a three-part adventure is [129] [130], even though I personally do not mind a pattern being followed throughout a season, especially how the series does not consist of sugar-coated homophobia that would leave a bitter taste in my mouth, unlike a certain episode of Become Jehovah’s Friend, also known as “Caleb and Sophia” [31] [114], yet at least a few episodes of that animated series can be praised for setting up good examples for children, regardless of their beliefs, such as showing good manners, refraining from stealing and trusting your conscience to keep yourself safe [67] [68] [69] [70]. Furthermore, it is possible to encourage bravery without religious bias or any spiritual undertones in general. Moreover, I can say that the third part of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” may lead to quite a satisfying conclusion, especially after God’s Gang were taught a few things by Kungfuda [47] [51], which is preferred over a cliffhanger in the first season not being solved until an episode of the second season consisting of an unfitting subplot and an issue regarding tones if fellow fans of Helluva Boss know what I mean [77] [131] [132].
And yes, there is a wholesome parody of Caleb & Sophia named “Caleb & Sophia All Grown Up” that was made in Plotagon to theorise the likely futures of Caleb and Sophia if they had stopped being Jehovah’s Witnesses [66] [68] [103] [104] [105]. Besides, just because programs like Vyond, formerly known as “GoAnimate” and Plotagon do not encourage real animation skills [8] [88], does not mean that a decent or compelling storyline being constructed with them is impossible [3] [4] [5] [7] [30]. [103]
Now, what do I mean by how I see “We Didn’t Start The Fire: Part 3” as a path to a hopefully satisfying conclusion to the second saga in the first (and hopefully not only) season [51]? Well, there is the big reveal of the Fear Bomb, a scary-looking bomb created by the Corpo Creeps, its fear-inducing radiation and its tentacles that feed on the team’s fears that pose another big threat besides the forest fire. On a more light-hearted note, more humorous moments include Ninjew fighting over his own fears with a tentacle, Chris Cross and TaekwonHindu’s hairstyles getting messed up after their fears get devoured and Kungfuda partially contradicting advice for TaekwonHindu on the slide to the Fear Bomb [47]. The pacing of the third chapter is also quite good, keeping the viewers engaged. As for the fourth and final part, it has been teased with fears the team must face, as well as the fusion of different prayers being activated once again [44] [129] [130]. As previously mentioned, Chris Cross ought to receive a form of character progression quite like how Ninjew gained the realisation of his height not always being an obstacle [47] [129] [130]. The fourth chapter will be out in a few days [44], so let us stay tuned.
That looks fun! Can I have a turn (without the risk of encountering a scarily designed bomb [44] [50])? [51]

Hmmm…I had a feeling that there could be a spoof of The Matrix at some point in God’s Gang [106]. They spoofed Star Wars after the release of “We Didn’t Start The Fire: Part 3”, right [41] [51]? As always, the show deserves praise for its message as it is important to encourage tolerance between harmless aspects of religions in real life [25] [109]. As for me, it will not be long now until I start further studying screenwriting [34]. [63]
There is a rather personal reason why God’s Gang gives me hope for humanity. About a decade ago, I did voice acting for an old Christian friend of mine whose creepypasta project, unfortunately, ended up in hot water due to how one of the characters they voiced mispronounced the term “muslims” as “mooslims” in one episode, which angered a viewer who complained about it in the comment section. Instead of making a public apology, said old friend of mine made a follow-up video consisting of religious bias, claiming that Allah was a “false god” and stating that his word was to kill anyone who does not believe in him, but in actuality, Islam only permits killing enemies at war, thus prohibiting slaying any innocent person who is not involved in a war at all [84]. They even went as far as to state that homosexuality was a choice because of a person being hurt after being cheated on to the point they “change” their sexuality after defending a bakery that denied the request to bake a cake for a same-sex couple’s wedding, thus being blatantly homophobic. Despite the satirical reveals of a certain religion being the correct one in cartoons like South Park and DarkMatter2525’s animations [21] [75] [112], the fact that God’s Gang saves the day in a pantheistic manner is sure to give universalists hope for humanity [94].
And yes, one of Rowan Atkinson’s memorable comedy skits made a jab at Judaism being the “correct” religion [15] [29]. Ironically enough, Sheila Broflovski from South Park once stated that Jews do not necessarily believe in Hell [21]. It is essential to cast aside viewing specific religious beliefs as false witnessing, even if you were taught that the religion you follow is the one true path to eternal paradise [74] [75]. And no, I shall not mention the username of the old client I mentioned as it was an issue that occurred about a decade ago. At least nowadays, I can unwind by listening to ASMR audio centred on Stolas from Helluva Boss as I remain agnostic for personal reasons [6] [22] [23] [24] [97]. But to this day, it is vital that talented voice actors and actresses who are gutted about their involvement in a project being poured down the drain after its cancellation receive the support they need [35]. [111]
And now, here are a few questions answered by the creator of God’s Gang, Nimrod Avraham May. Please show him undeniable support for the passion he has put into the series [41]. Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions, Mr. May. So, what has kept you motivated to help the pantheistic power of God’s Gang flourish, even after its failure to be officially established, especially due to possibly being rejected by Disney some time ago [52]?

Nimrod Avraham May:
Thank you. Just to clarify, Disney never rejected God’s Gang. Back in 2005, when I was working with Disney, I pitched an idea to reimagine the Power Rangers as an interfaith team [52]. Heroes from different religions and backgrounds, united to promote understanding and compassion. They didn’t move forward with it, but the idea stayed with me.

In 2006, I began creating my own original universe. That became God’s Gang, with the same characters we’re bringing to life now. What’s kept me going is the belief that through storytelling, we can spark empathy and compassion in young hearts and minds. That has always been the driving force.

Laura Amy Williams:
Are there any plans to make the series progress into more than one season, especially by popular demand?

Nimrod Avraham May:
Absolutely. Our vision goes far beyond one season. We’re building God’s Gang as a full franchise, with plans for hundreds of episodes across many seasons. But it doesn’t stop there. We’re also developing games, merchandise, live experiences, and even exploring Web3 and immersive digital platforms. It’s a world we want kids and families to connect with in many different ways — filled with compassion, adventure, and purpose.

Laura Amy Williams:
Especially after the debut of Kungfuda [47], do you suppose the interfaith and diversity in the series will increase even further with a few more allies of God’s Gang who can even represent a different denomination of a particular religion [120] [129] [130]? Personally, I believe that an example could be a new member representing Catholicism due to the conflicts between Catholic and Protestant faiths throughout history [62]. Your answer can be spoiler-free, of course.

Nimrod Avraham May:
Yes, definitely. The world of God’s Gang is built to grow, and we have many new allies and characters in development who will represent different cultures, beliefs, and ways of life. We’re always listening to our audience, and we regularly get requests for characters from a wide range of faiths and backgrounds, including different denominations within the same religion.

What’s been especially interesting is the growing number of atheists who connect with the series and see value in its message. Many have asked for a character who represents their worldview, and that’s something we’re seriously considering.

We’ve also partnered with Autism in Entertainment and Spectrum Labs to expand inclusion beyond faith. Tylar Berman, who narrates our teaser, and Atticus Baldwin, who appears in episode 6 (coming April 9), are both neurodiverse talents [129] [130]. We want the world of God’s Gang to reflect the richness and variety of real life, and we’re having a lot of fun building it with the fans.

Laura Amy Williams:
Have you and the head writer Rob Kutner been aware of certain cartoons that are known for their religious agenda but have received criticism for some questionable messages during the development of God’s Gang [31] [38] [39] [71]?

Nimrod Avraham May:
Yes, we were aware of other shows like VeggieTales and Minoriteam, and we know some of them received criticism for pushing a certain agenda [95] [99]. But honestly, we didn’t focus on that. From day one, we’ve stayed true to our own vision.

God’s Gang is an action-packed, funny, character-driven adventure [129] [130]. What makes it different is that it’s powered by spiritual ideas and shared values that show up across cultures. Kindness, courage, respect, and the ability to work together even when we’re different.

We want to be clear. This isn’t a story about promoting religion. Some of our characters are guided by their faith because that’s part of who they are, just like in real life. But people will watch because it’s fun, exciting, and meaningful. The deeper message of peace and unity is there, but it’s a bonus, not the pitch.

Laura Amy Williams:
Do you believe that the series has given its young target audience hope that there can be teamwork, regardless of the teammates’ religious beliefs in real life and that religious bias will ultimately not affect companionship and businesses? I strongly believe that could be the case as someone whose experience in voicing two creepypasta characters, including my own in an old audio drama was, unfortunately, tarnished by the writer’s religious bias and homophobia in an aftermath video that was NOT an apology for an Islamophobic offence in one episode.

Nimrod Avraham May:
I absolutely believe that. In fact, I’d say we don’t just hope for it, we’re intentional about it. Every episode is carefully “coded,” as you put it, with values we believe matter in the real world. Things like kindness, teamwork, compassion, and love.

Our audience is diverse, not just in background but in age. From young kids to viewers well into their sixties, people are connecting with these ideas. What we’re showing is that it’s not faith or culture that divides us, it’s fear and bias. And when characters from different worlds can come together, face challenges, and grow as a team, it gives people a new way of seeing what’s possible.

We also have an interfaith advisory council made up of an imam, a rabbi, a Baptist preacher, and Hindu and Buddhist experts. Alongside that, we work with a pedagogic advisor. We start with the stories and adventures we want to tell, and then our advisors review everything to make sure we’re handling the material with the right level of care and sensitivity. That’s incredibly important to us.

We can’t fix the world with one show. But we can offer a story that reminds people how to treat each other. And we think that matters.

Laura Amy Williams:
Without spilling spoilers, how confident have you felt about the third part of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” leading to the conclusion of a saga sometime before the release and reception of the fourth and final part [51]?

Nimrod Avraham May:
We’re really proud of how it’s been received so far.
Since YouTube is our main platform, we pay close attention to the sentiment and engagement, and we’ve been blown away by the response. Each episode is averaging around 99 percent likes, with hundreds of comments, and the overwhelming majority of them are positive.
We also have a lot of fun reading the comments and chatting with fans on Discord and other social platforms. There’s a lot of excitement, speculation, and great predictions about how the story will wrap up. That kind of energy tells us we’re on the right track, and it definitely boosts our confidence about the final chapter.

Laura Amy Williams:
Finally, how does it feel to have two autistic voice actors, including the ambassador of Autism In Entertainment be part of the God’s Gang cast [129] [130]? Feel free to tell me if there are more members of the creative team on the autism spectrum as it warms my heart to hear about a fellow autistic person striving diligently and confidently as they follow their passions [91].

Nimrod Avraham May:
It feels amazing. It makes us proud and happy to include autistic voice actors in God’s Gang, especially knowing the talent and heart they bring. Tylar Berman, the ambassador for Autism in Entertainment, narrates our teaser, and Atticus Baldwin plays a role in Episode Six [129] [130]. For us, it’s not just a nice gesture, it’s part of our mission. If someone has the passion and the talent, they deserve to be part of this project. No need to apologise or explain. If your heart is in the right place, you’re welcome in the God’s Gang family.

And that goes beyond autism. We have an incredibly diverse team in every sense of the word. We’re global, with creatives in a dozen cities across four continents. Our team includes people from all the major religions, people with disabilities, people who share different sexual orientations, and people from all kinds of cultural backgrounds. Inclusion isn’t a checkbox for us. It’s how we work. We choose the best people for the team, no matter who they are, where they’re from, or how they identify.
Once again, a special thanks to Nimrod Avraham May for being featured in this follow-up [42]. I can see that the creative team of God’s Gang will remain respectful, appreciative and encouraging to the audience [43] [53] [129] [130]. [62]

Laura Amy Williams:
To this day, it is uncertain to know if there is a God or not, so we can let people believe what they want about a supposed creator of the universe [92]. Aside from the likeliness of more episodes of God’s Gang, the second season of Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man will feature a new incarnation of Spider-Gwen and many hazbeans hope that the third season of Helluva Boss can be considered the best one in terms of humour, character development, story structure and faithfulness to the first season [9] [20] [110]. There is also hope that there will be some exceptional LGBTQIA+ Muslim representation, especially within the portrayals of one or two Muslim characters from Turkish, Indonesian, Azerbaijan, Bosnian, Herzegovinian, Kosovo Albanian or Kazakh backgrounds in animation to combat the issues regarding homophobia in Islam and how alienated LGBTQIA+ Muslims can feel in the future [26] [27] [28] [86], despite the snakes in the grass that is homophobia, especially on social media [12]. But right now, Poké players are looking forward to watching new episodes of Pokémon Concierge on Netflix this September [107]. In the meantime, I do not doubt that more animation admirers will wholeheartedly praise God’s Gang for its message of spiritual diversity and the adventures of the gang are always worth it [109] [129] [130]. Let your creativity flourish [13] [17] [18] [19] [73] [91] [93], be proud of how you have moved on from the negative aspects of your past and give credit where credit is due [32] [80].
And be sure to keep supporting your autistic colleagues, especially if they happen to be going through some dark times [56] [58] [81]. God bless God’s Gang! [63]
