The Quality Of Life In My Little Pony: Pony Life

Whether My Little Pony: Pony Life is all in Pinkie Pie’s point of view or not [50] [51], I still appreciate it for its redeeming qualities and being filler between the fourth and fifth generations of the My Little Pony franchise in 2020 [50] [51] [52] [53]. Even though it is more focused on quick-paced comedy and consists of a slice of life genre [29], I can tell that the series is focused on the value of friendship as there is a compilation in association with celebrating International Friendship Day on Hasbro’s official My Little Pony YouTube channel [21]. I am hoping that the series will soon air in the United Kingdom and Ireland since I reside in England and the production of the series involved co-operation with Boulder Media, an Irish company [4]. Even though there have been no signs of the series officially airing in either of those nations yet [29], I can always check out the compilations on the official My Little Pony YouTube channel for analysing its slice of life vibes. There is always another way, according to Finding Dory [7]. For the fourth time, I shall express my critical thoughts on the newest animated interpretation of pony life, which is My Little Pony: Pony Life [48] [49].

PONY LIIIIIIIIIFE [21] [26]! [30]

Firstly, let us reflect on what the portrayal of Potion Nova, one of the newest ponies in Ponyville has to offer [25]. I quite like the premise of Twilight Sparkle trying to learn how to make potions, but failing every single attempt as it is an interesting new take on her development in Pony Life, especially when it comes to her alliance with Potion Nova and her determination to be intellectually impressive [22]. Moreover, it is pretty assuming how Nova poses as a therapist after the montage. More importantly, I adore how she advises Twilight to take it easy during the progress of creating potions. This briefly reminds me of how a well-known cartoon reviewer named Josh Strider, also known as “PhantomStrider” online advised his audience to maintain mindfulness, especially through deep breathing [40] [41]. As much as I understand how Twilight Sparkle tried to seem masterful to Potion Nova, it delights me to know that the newest unicorn in Equestria can at least provide helpful advice to reassure her [22]. I believe that Potion Nova is now my new favourite pony, not just because she is a Pony Life and Potion Ponies exclusive character [13].

I also love how potentially symbolic the method of putting emotion into a potion is as Potion Nova demonstrates it in association with teaching young children the importance of taking it steadily when it comes to new tasks. [22]

There is one pony who originated from Friendship Is Magic and has returned in Pony Life. Once again voiced by Kathleen Barr [3], the Great and Powerful Trixie Lulamoon is portrayed as someone who sincerely tries to understand the meaning of friendship aside from her determination to be “the best” [20] [31]. Even though she eventually learned the basics of being a true friend in a montage and referred herself as “Trixie the Powerfully Grateful” after learning that friendship is not a competition, the friendship bracelet she makes suddenly becomes big enough to capture the Mane Six altogether [20], which is a sign of her antagonistic side from Friendship Is Magic taking the lead [12]. When it comes to providing some value underneath fast-paced action and humour, I like how Pony Life still captivates the theme of maintaining true friendships and developing outstanding social skills, along with how it manages to make the portrayal of another pony from Friendship Is Magic familiar yet fresh [20]. Furthermore, I would be curious to see if at least how one more character from Friendship Is Magic is portrayed in Pony Life before the preparations for Generation Five.

Including Trixie in the show is legitimate because there is a toy based on her in the Potion Ponies toy line from Hasbro [16]. I think another character from the Friendship Is Magic era should only appear in Pony Life if the Pony Life brand consists of a toy based on her to make her appearance a little more valid [33] [43]. [20]

What about any further development of the Mane Six besides Twilight Sparkle’s alliance with Potion Nova [22] [25]? I am terribly sorry, but I really do not like Fluttershy’s bossiness and greediness in the premise of her friends selling cookies as a business as it is more concerning and out-of-character than Twilight Sparkle’s competitiveness towards Rainbow Dash and how Princess Celestia is more like a food critic than a fair ruler [27] [50] [51] [52] [53]. Since when did she become a copy of the Bloo who was a dangerously selfish and greedy company manager from “Cookie Dough”, an episode of the second season of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends [10]? Nevertheless, she eventually stops and learns that a strong desire to meet her idol, Finn Tastic has overshadowed her virtue of kindness [28], which motivates me into giving her off-putting portrayal a spoonful of slack [27]. Throughout the airing of Pony Life, there have been moments of character development that are either out-of-character or a trait that is taken too far [50] [51] [52] [53], which is what I believe many purists of the first three seasons of Friendship Is Magic will not take too kindly to [17] [44].

Fluttershy’s out-of-character behaviour reminds me of how some fans of Ed, Edd n Eddy found Double D’s attitude towards Eddy in the episode about a cursed telephone out-of-character [6] [11] [45]. I strongly prefer her stare from the first season of Friendship Is Magic as it at least provided some heroism against those who are up to no good [19]. Remind me not to bake oatmeal cookies with raisins. [27]

Despite my disapproval of Fluttershy’s exclusive selfish side, are there any more witty moments to talk about? The moment Rainbow Dash drank a potion that motivated her into referencing Sonic the Hedgehog was priceless [24], yet brought back memories of discovering her being shipped with him [39]. I also find it very hilarious how Twilight and her friends tried to capture the one responsible for the delivery of the potions but failed every attempt [23] [25]. It was also funny when four of the Mane Six expressed epic jaw drops as Potion Nova began her majestic entrance, but then she suddenly tripped over one of the rainbows [25]. I think Rarity’s reaction to losing a pair of sunglasses...again sums up our reactions to losing something quite valuable. As for the cuteness contest between Fluttershy and Bubbles that occurs when the pink-maned pegasus has enough [20], karma is a Queen Chrysalis for the sassy jerk of a feline as he eventually gets the Team Rocket treatment for his meanness [9] [8]. Again, providing well-written humour is essential for trying to make the spin-off of the iconic cartoon from the 2010s faithful and trustworthy for our fellow bronies and pegasisters [42].

I wonder if Dashie’s reference to Sonic the Hedgehog is a shout-out to SonDash shippers [39]. [24]

Oh. And let us not forget how Applejack is still our fourth wall breaker! [20]

I would also like to discuss more discoveries in the Pony Life version of Equestria aside from zany results from consuming potions [24]. It turns out that there is a legendary creature named “Bighoof” [27], which is obviously a parody of Bigfoot [46], quite similar to Big Food from one episode of Chowder [5]. The sight of the potion ocean is absolutely beautiful [22]! I adore how it consists of the colours of the rainbow and I love to splash around in it if I were a pony. Despite that, there is also a strange depth of the ocean that consists of various lost objects [26], which expands the setting’s creativity to a degree. Oh my Celestia! Twilight Sparkle and Applejack get trapped in a potion bottle and witness the title of a Prince song at some point [22] [37]! Despite how I find the lack of colouring and wonky proportions for some aspects of the backgrounds flawed [48] [49], I appreciate how several fantasy elements have been established outside of Ponyville to give Pony Life some of the fantasy vibes that Friendship Is Magic has during its nine-year run to show more than smart devices just to appeal to today’s youth [18].

I am absolutely starstrucked by the beautiful rainbow ocean! I would need to avoid getting lost in the depth of lost items though [26]. [22]

I am sorry once again, but I must lightly but firmly put my hoof down after seeing more depth of Rainbow Dash feeling unwell at Sugarcube Corner [23]. Twilight Sparkle is seen wearing a face mask as Dashie leaves the bakery, which is just too familiar in a terrible start of a new decade. Seriously, there are tons of reports about people losing their lives to coronavirus and mental health problems caused by lockdowns on the news already [1] [2] [38]. Rather than the risk of illness anxiety increasing from witnessing the premise, we need a source of delight to help us reduce that anxiety and think beyond the rest of the difficulties we have had in 2020. Despite my complaint, I have a theory that the script for this episode was written at some point before the pandemic began. Moreover, it might as well be brushed off as a public service announcement for the little ones during such a frightening time of separation and uncertainty. Besides, the premise would be more badly timed and in rather poor taste if it was not for those public service announcements about saving lives during the coronavirus outbreak in Weibo before the show aired [30].

I mostly feel negative towards an episode of Pony Life seemingly referencing the unnerving impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on us all in real life [1] [2] [38]. [23]

And who would have thought Pinkie Pie would be very anxious and show signs of being a workaholic when she becomes ill and has to rest? [23]

Despite some aspects that I believe are rather flawed, I still stand by how I believe the spin-off of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is mostly faithful adaption based on Hasbro’s Pony Life toy line. Speaking of toy lines from Hasbro, since there is a new line of Littlest Pet Shop within its sixth generation known as the “Keep Me Pack” [15] [34] [35] [36], I believe there can be a release a special edition of a pet from the second generation from Hasbro or the vintage era from Kenner to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Littlest Pet Shop franchise at some point in 2022 [53]. It worked for the original Polly Pocket for her 30th anniversary last year, right [47]? As for the My Little Pony franchise, there is still plenty of time to hope for a remarkable outcome of the fifth generation at some point later in the 2020s. Many of us may still be complaining about how awful the year 2020 is as a horrible start of a new decade [32], but there are still new things for us to try and tune into, including a decent re-imagining of a cartoon we loved years before the pandemic and other distressing conflict began [1] [2] [38].

I believe that a special 30th anniversary edition of a Littlest Pet Shop figurine from the mid-2000s or early 2010s can potentially do the LPSTube community a huge favour in 2022 [54]. [14]

Anyway, I hope this fourth review of a mostly cool spin-off of an ironically cool cartoon from the 2010s was cool. If you thought it was cool, cool [50] [51]! [27]

Staying Sweet With Hello Kitty’s Sweet Moments

Hello, fellow kitties! And meow to you all! While a hellish groovy music video within the adults-only category of modern animation online has received acclaim for its expansion on a four-armed frenemy’s development in the afterlife [19] [33] [34], a brand new series of webisodes starring a certain iconic and youthful cat from Sanrio that has been established online to welcome her to the beginning of a new decade is remaining sure to captivate viewers with its U-rated elements [9] [10] [11]. Ever since the mid-1970s, Kitty White has cuted many consumers out with her kawaii aesthetics on many clothing items and accessories, thus being referred to as “Hello Kitty”, her stage name [12] [15]. Speaking of being cuted out, I still remember being delighted from receiving a Hello Kitty tent after crafting it in exchange for five-hundred Hello Kitty gyroidites in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp while plenty of other animal crossers’ avatars snacked on Hello Kitty fortune cookies back in mid-2019 [1] [20] [21]. As someone who cosplayed as her twin sister Mimmy during Halloween later that year [17] [29] [30] [31] [32], I am more than delighted to analyse the first three weekly sweet moments on the official YouTube channel she shares with other Sanrio characters [8] [13].

This kawaii kitty from a Japanese company is back and sweeter than ever in her sweet moments! [11]

The art style is quite refreshing, to say the least [9] [10] [11]. Even though Kitty’s head is more oval-shaped than usual, she still looks super cute as a cat that is as tall as a stack of five apples [15]. The colouring in plenty of aspects, including her eyes and bow, consist of tiny white gaps to make it resemble amateur colouring within a traditional drawing. It may be quite off-putting to some degree, but it may increase the appeal of the new web series for young viewers. However, the style of the colouring reminds me of the choppy colouring in the Deadpool’s Head app [6] [7]. The backgrounds are very plain with hardly much detail, but they at least help Kitty and aspects she interacts with stand out well and remind me of the extreme simplicity of the asdfmovie series [25] [26] [27] [28]. The animation’s smooth and steady flow enriches the freshness of the new art style as an element of exceptional quality. Even though the new art style for Sweet Moments with Hello Kitty may not be every Hello Kitty fan’s strawberry milkshake, it can still be seen as quite a fresh new look for a brand new establishment of the iconic gijinka’s life.

It is quite amusing how Kitty’s bow, her face, her whiskers and the recipe book stand out from a transparent layer that spawned from the flour being poured into the mixing bowl. Aside from that, the animation and art style give the web series its own source of individuality. [10]

The premise of the show is basically Kitty doing ordinary things, such as baking an apple pie and practising tennis with a tennis ball machine [9] [10] [11]. The plots are very simplistic, which suits Kitty’s guiltless lifestyle of being a young Bobtail cat. One rather amusing moment of irony is when the tennis ball machine shoots out a bottle of water instead of another tennis ball after Kitty exhales from exhaustion from hitting a flock of balls with her racket in “Friendly Rewards” [9]. A creatively symbolic moment is when our loveable feline makes hearts appear above her head by thinking lovingly and then gathering them to complete the apple pie she baked in “Made With Love” [10]. The plot consists of the most conflict is the one in “Sweet Solutions” as it is about Kitty trying to figure out which ice-cold sweet treat would be the safest to snack on in hot weather [11]. With such simple and innocent scenarios, it looks like the web series is not called “Sweet Moments with Hello Kitty” for nothing. Additionally, the simplistic formula at least consists of conflict, creativity or irony to be somewhat engaging for the audience and ought to stay that way for more episodes.

What about my thoughts on the audio? There is very little voice acting in the shorts, not because Kitty’s kawaii face lacks a mouth [9] [10] [11]. You can at least hear her giggle softly when she is happy and sigh when she feels bummed or exhausted. I believe that the same amount of voice acting will apply to Mimmy White or Dear Daniel if either of them ought to make an appearance in another short [14] [17]. The theme tune that plays during the title screens sounds so calming with chimes of child-like innocence, thus reminding me of some examples of music from MySims for the Nintendo Wii [5]. I also like how slightly more dramatic samples of music play when rather unfortunate events happen, such as when the scoops of Kitty’s ice cream fall onto the ground as they fit the feeling of casually encountering them [11]. I would not be surprised if a delightfully motivating superhero fanfare will play if a new episode welcomes back Ichigoman, Kitty’s superhero persona who debuted back in 2011 [16]. The elements of the audio for the first three weekly shorts in Summer 2020 have been practically and competently produced, further increasing the quality and child-like innocence of the series.

While samples of the music are often cheerful to suit the honeyed tones of each episode [9] [10] [11], the variety of foley sounds in the first three shorts are also competent, such as the sound of a tennis ball being whacked by Kitty’s racket. [9]

While Kitten Catfe is such a cute and creative toy line for toy reviewers and the youth of today [18], Sweet Moments with Hello Kitty is a sweet treat for Hello Kitty fans of all ages in the second half of 2020 [9] [10] [11]. Its adorable and overly innocent outcome is yet another way to benefit our mental health during the coronavirus pandemic [2] [3]. Moreover, it might as well receive my nomination for “The Cutest Cartoon Of 2020”, even though there are only three episodes so far. Furthermore, I shall look forward to some more animated shorts week after week throughout the rest of the year. You and I may miss a certain era of time we refer to as “the good old days”, but at least we can still look forward to discovering new additions of our favourite franchises, including forthcoming video games like Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart [23] [24]. Aside from young people today tuning in to Sweet Moments with Hello Kitty, some older audiences shall be ready to rock their rage out with the third season of Aggretsuko in August [4] [22]. Stay sweet in your sweet moments, fellow kitties!

Welcome back to artistic damnation, fellow sinners and admirers of animation for adults! A few days after a certain pink-wigged internet personality managed to sell “gamer girl” condoms [2] [3] [4], a brand new animated music video was uploaded on the YouTube channel ran by the talented and inspirational Vivienne Medrano [17]. Over eight months after the success of the pilot of Hazbin Hotel that roared like the fires of Hell [20], we finally get to see more of Angel Dust, arguably the pilot’s most iconic character in association with a groovy techno song produced by Silva Hound and sang by Michael Kovach and Chi-Chi named “Addict” [27] [28]. Since I have critically praised the pilots of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss [20] [21] [38] [39], I have had some high expectations for the music video before its release as I spotted its two teasers on the official Hazbin Hotel Twitter timeline [6] [7]. Surely there have been other artists drawing their own redesigns of the cast of Hazbin Hotel during its rise in popularity [1], but their canon designs are still being used in the official music video for “Addict” to honour the popularity of a special circle of Hell [17].

Who knows? There can always be fanmade versions of the music video with one of the remixes of the song and alternative designs of Angel Dust [28]. [1]

Anyway, since I have once again been dragged to Hell [24], let the analysis begin! [17]

Once again, the art style and animation are absolutely magnificent [17]. Aside from the enchantingly gorgeous pink spider web behind Angel Dust at the strip club [6] [7] [23], there are striking green flames, dazzling purple flames and convincing clouds of smoke from bombs during a certain daring dame’s destructions. The backgrounds once again have carefully selected colour palettes to suit the energetic beat of the song and emotions of the characters. Additionally, I adore how there is a mesmerising aquarium behind the two antiheroes at some point, which could be proof of the four-armed frenemy’s fondness of pacing through an aquarium [11]. The characters move smoothly and quite frantically as part of the excellent quality put into the successful pilot of Hazbin Hotel maintained in the music video [20], especially during a bird’s-eye view of Cherri Bomb that rotates during her an explosion spree on rooftops. Even though I wonder how the heck would it rain green liquid in Hell, I still thought the raining effect was pretty cool. Medrano’s talented team of artists and animators have given the music video set in her own circle of Hell a familiar lot of artistic value [20] [21], partially bringing back memories of the animated music video that starred a werewolf named JJ [19].

And of course, there is satanic imagery, such as the pentagram behind the antiheroic allies since the intellectual property is set in Hell [20]. Furthermore, how can there be an aquarium in the depths of Hell? Apparently, fish can be sinners on Earth as well unless the fish were borrowed from Heaven. There are brighter and more striking colour palettes for when Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb are feeling empowered. [17]

And there are duller and more depressing colour palettes during the moments when Angel Dust is looking tormented. The animation is excellent, even though the flow of the dollars being earned by Angel Dust for his strutting is slightly choppy. [17]

It turns out that the character who consists of the vocals of Chi-Chi in the music video is Cherri Bomb instead of Molly [17] [38] [39]. At least Chi-Chi’s amazing singing suits Cherri very well as she was voiced by Krystal LaPorte in the pilot [13]. It is quite a relief that she managed to flick one of her bombs away before it exploded out of sight after the solo verse began. Before that, the rebellious nemesis of Sir Pentious is seen launching her bombs on rooftops during her comrade’s performance at the strip club. I love how the one-eyed antiheroine sings along with Angel Dust dresses up with him as a loyal friend of his. I do not doubt that plenty of Hazbeans enjoyed watching their synchronised dance routine at another strip club. I can say that the masterpiece of a music video expands on the alliance and loyalty between Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb [20]. Hell would usually be an intimidating place for terrible people to pay the price, but its Vivziepop circle is sometimes a place for two best friends to get their grooves on [17].

It looks like Cherri Bomb can also throw bottle-shaped bombs in the name of female empowerment in Pentagram City. [17]

But seriously, does she always have to blow something up? Even places where no threat is being aimed at her? [17]

I can tell from the beginning that the music video takes place at some point before the comic that takes place before Charlie Magne, the princess of Hell tells Hell’s population about her dream of helping sinners redeem themselves [8] [9] [10] [20]. Valentino, the pimp accompanied by two female characters as he watches Angel’s performance blows a red breeze of tobacco smoke as a symbol of his lust towards him, especially when the tip of it forms a hand to swiftly stroke his chin [17]. The proactive and promiscuous antihero has been considered physically attractive to many folks in Hell. Hell, he receives disturbing letters from fans to prove that [20]. That still does not justify Valentino’s controlling actions and the terrible impact they have on Angel Dust [8] [9] [10] [14]. Furthermore, I would love to see his reputation get ruined at some point in a line of new episodes of Hazbin Hotel throughout the 2020s [14]. The end of the music video that features an exclusive and far more melodramatic verse of the song takes place at some point after the events of the pilot and seems likely to be featured in the next episode as it shows Angel Dust rejecting Charlie’s attempt at kindness at the hotel [17] [20].

Ah. The music video definitely takes place before the pilot as we see the same fella who engaged in sexual activity with Angel Dust [20]. [17]

There is a less powerful side of Angel Dust shown in a few scenes of the music video [17]. The way he has a meltdown was quite unnerving to watch. Nonetheless, it was touching to see Cherri Bomb attempt to comfort him during some short transitions to a bleaker side during the first chorus, which shows a more humane side of her. The red scent from Valentino’s smoking is also briefly seen coiling his target’s neck and wrists to symbolise his desires to dominate him solely because of his physical attractiveness [8] [9] [10] [14]. The moments when Angel seemed to feel weaker than he would normally seem to feel point to a theory that he is a victim of sexual abuse, especially during the moment he has to kiss Valentino against his own will, which adds more to how he was created at the time Medrano was in a toxic relationship [11] [38] [39]. Even though I was once non-canonically treated to the four-armed sex symbol re-enacting quotes from Bayonetta [30], I am quite saddened by how he ended up being taken advantage of by someone he works for [8] [9] [10] [14], leading to a canonical decline of his mental well-being as shown towards the end of the music video [17].

Even though Angel Dust spouted plenty of sexual humour in the pilot of Hazbin Hotel [20], the abuse he gets haunts him, which explains why he threw some wine glasses across the room in an unstable manner. [17]

I may have been a bit peeved at Angel Dust giving Charlie the finger at the hotel, but I can still that he is still feeling anxious about being confronted by Valentino, even when he is holding the cigarette that spawns a similar red fume to the controlling pimp exhaled at the strip club. The way it was curved into the shape of a heart after he tosses it onto an ashtray could be a sign of him possibly having Stockholm syndrome, but I digress as that is more likely to apply to Vincent Brooks from Catherine [40] [41]. [17]

Let us look into some other characters. At some point during Cherri Bomb’s Michael Bay inspired antics [32], she shortly reflects on another character who briefly resembles Arackniss, the older brother of Angel Dust who is usually tough towards him [12] [17]. Speaking of Arackniss, it was mentioned by Medrano that he would be given a redesign in the show [17], compared to his appearance in Daddy Issues, an animatic created in 2015 during Hazbin Hotel’s development [18]. The female demon who is accompanied by Valentino looks a lot like Millie from Helluva Boss [21]. Since she seems to be a lesbian instead of a male co-worker’s wife [17], could she be Millie’s sister? The reason for Fat Nuggets, the adorable pet pig of Angel Dust being present in Hell might be a reference to how consuming meat from pigs is prohibited in Islam [35]. Nevertheless, he sure brings a more humane side of his owner as somewhat predicted in my analysis of the French dub of the pilot [36] [37]. Aside from how the cast of radically designed characters appears to have slightly increased, let us hope that more episodes of Hazbin Hotel will lead to the antihero’s freedom from Valentino’s sexual manipulation [14].

Arackniss [12]? Is that you? I guess Cherri Bomb does not like you very much. [17]

Despite how I believe that YouTube and its service have gotten worse and worse as the years went on [5] [31] [34], there will always be something new from a content creator to be bewitched by. Plenty of Hazbeans are still curious about what will happen next after the events of the pilot [20], but at least a hellishly stunning music video taking place before the events is one hell of a treat for them in the second half of 2020 [17]. Am I addicted to the feeling and getting higher than the ceiling [27] [28]? Well, I shall hope that the four-armed frenemy will find a way to overcome the sexual abuse he received, along with those being abused in real life finding a way out as well [15] [26] [29] [33]. His development has come a long way since the moment an earlier interpretation of him looked deranged and murderous when unfitting music played back in 2013 [22]. While plenty of old school Nintendo nerds who also declare to be LEGO lovers are sensing a sweet breeze of nostalgia with the LEGO NES set [16], our fellow Hazbeans are addicted to the madness as Hazbin Hotel is their Atlantis [17] [20] [27] [28].

If you do not want the feeling to end, just give in to your inner demons again [27] [28]. [17]
