Being Dumbfounded By The Third Mini-Episode Of Helluva Shorts

This is an analysis and a review of a mini-episode of an animated series that contains content aimed at mature audiences, including:

  • Explicit sexual references, including a few depictions of nudity
  • One mildly graphic stabbing
  • One depiction of a bleeding corpse

Despite a lack of advertising for Helluva Shorts until the announcement of the third minisode [47], the series of minisodes outside of Helluva Boss that began with the well-deserved return of Sallie May was teased by Vivienne Medrano during an interview on why she admires BoJack Horseman [18] [41]. Near the end of this year’s Summer-themed Helluva Boss merchandise [75], the second minisode was basically another assignment for the Blitzster and his employees in the fiercely Wintery essences of Antarctica [10] [71]. I am only partially enlightened by it as I praise the uniqueness of its premise for being set in Antarctica as it brought the focus back on the Blitzster’s business and the on-key pacing but I feel iffy towards the idea of licking an alternative to Stolas’ grimoire that is CLEARLY not an ice lolly and an army of vicious penguins repeatedly spewing slurs, even though they are censored with squawks [60] [101] [140] [141]. So, can the third Helluva Short be considered better [72] [100]? Well, after discussing how an animated Barbie movie from Illumination can possibly excel on its own accords and analysing the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer with my fiancé [137] [139], I have summoned a list of elements from the new minisode titled “Weeaboo-Boo” to discuss…as the kind of hazbean that is hardly talked about [72].

If only a certain T-shirt from the merchandise based on “Mission: Antarctica” did not depict the gag of a penguin spewing thankfully censored slurs and only featured the livid critter who survived the explosion of the research station without it [12] [40] [60] [101]. How many times do I have to firmly remind both sides of the critical spectrum that I do NOT want a relapse of the guilt and imprisonment I felt when I was in the Sonic the Hedgehog and creepypasta fanbases [31] [74] [99] [121] [122] [137]?! Moreover, I absolutely refuse to purchase a subscription to X Premium, formerly known as “Twitter Blue” for a reason [130] [131] [132] [144]. On a lighter note, I can still consider the Hellaverse a form of escapism when I feel imprisoned and endangered when it comes to being autistic and I have been told that I should not give up on what I love because of a few people [7] [26] [47] [50] [87]. I can always have a drink at the bar run by Husk [52], hang out with Fizzarolli and be kissed on the hand by Asmodeus to keep feeling welcome [1] [125]. [100]


Moreover, here is another analysis and review by yours truly as sales of new merchandise based on the events of the third minisode of Helluva Shorts commence [44] [59]! Oh! And do not forget about the real-life incarnation of the Blitzster’s keychain [42] [43]! So, am I ultimately still in love with the Hellaverse after my date with Vox [124]? Let us find out. [59]


Previously, I.M.P. almost froze their tails off and fled from a swarm of blood-thirsty penguins in Earth’s coldest and least-populated continent [10] [25] [71]. In the third minisode, Blitzo goes on a solo mission to take down a fangirl in her twenties who will be discussed later on [72]. Even though his witty singing as he approaches her is brilliant, I feel like there was a missed opportunity for him to murmur, “The crazy b**ch makes Stolas look sane...” after he stabs her to death in a way that is not as brutal as Striker’s attack on Stolas in “Western Energy” for a reason that will also be explained later [69], but I think that is absent in “Weeaboo-Boo” for a reason [61] [67] [72], especially since Helluva Shorts has been running alongside the rest of the second season of Helluva Boss after an exceptional mid-season special [61] [64] [67] [70] [71] [72]. There is another jab at his pool spelling skills before his murder attempt but remember my warning from my review of the second short [9] [140] [141]! As Daxter from the Jak & Daxter franchise continues to roast other characters [27] [28] [29] [137], the Blitzster continues to be the assassin from Hell we adore, despite a party dedicated to hating him and I am quite infatuated by the way he does an assignment all by himself in “Weeaboo-Boo”, but it is still vital that his character development from “Apology Tour” will not go to waste in “Ghostf***ers” shortly after Lara Croft’s will grow in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft [61] [110] [111] [140] [141].
 
Brandon Rogers always does an excellent job at voicing the Blitzster [61] [62] [66] [71] [72] [88]. And no, I would not be scared if I were his next target [72]. Care to get involved in your pink suit, Deadpool [52]? Aside from how admirable the voice acting is in Helluva Boss (and we shall expand on that later on) [61] [62] [65] [68] [69] [70], talented voice actors who feel like they have been let down by the SAG-AFTRA and so on deserve our kindness and support [32] [102]. [72]


There was some speculation that the woman Blitzo sneaks up on in the sneak peek is Medrano before the minisode’s release [11] [47]. It turns out that the woman is a fangirl named Emberlynn Pinkle who is…quite obsessed to an insane extent [72]. Her design somehow reminds me of Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and the video game based on Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World [119] [120] [123]. Her personality and infatuation with Blitzo make her a bit more than some obsessed weeaboo [72], but I feel like the term “weeaboo” is a little outdated, considering the infamy of some content creators who were considered weeaboos back in the late 2000s and early 2010s [105]. Nonetheless, the premise of the short and the portrayal of a dangerously obsessed fan is a vague reminder of that episode of Sonic Boom that rightfully roasted the problematic side of the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom [72] [96]. Aside from that, there is some significance in her pendant as it consists of some seemingly angelic powers, most notably one that prevents Blitzo from stabbing her with a force field [72]. Despite Emberlynn being…well…cringey, thus making the pilot and Season One Stolas’ love for Blitzo look clean [65] [66] [72], healthy and wholesome, Monica Franco, who also voiced Vaggie in the pilot for Hazbin Hotel nailed the overall performance [14] [33] [72]. And kudos to Medrano for her appearance in the seventh episode of “Class Acts” as she continues to let one of her creations flourish [89] [90] [103].

As Krusty the Clown once said, violence is fine, just as long as you do not show a nipple. [95]. [72]


Emberlynn’s sinner form looks adorable with her headphones being adapted into actual cat ears [72]. She could have a girls’ night out with Martha and Mrs. Mayberry [61]. What if her pendant had…the ULTIMATE power [108]?! But in all seriousness, does she consider her love for monster hentai a form of mechanism during some toxic times [72]? That could be established in a future episode for some effective depth and relatability. [72]


My thoughts on the minor roles in “Weeaboo-Boo” [72]? Just like the client from “Mission: Antarctica”, the client in “Weeaboo-Boo” is unseen and we only get to see the information about the target in the file on the Blitzster’s desk [9] [71] [72]. Why did the unseen client hire him to kill Emberlynn? Because she shipped Scribbleton with Shawnathan instead of Blorbinzo! Seriously?! I am not fond of incestuous ships but killing a shipper just for shipping?! Have we learned nothing from the toxicity of the SonAmy Vs. Sonally Vs. Sonaze debates in the Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase [49] [98]? What is next? A fanboy or critic wanting yours truly dead for shipping SonElise since 2010…or failing to critique the Helluva Boss series in a certain way [94] [142] [143]?! For personal reasons, I consider the portrayals of Emberlynn’s parents my least favourite part of the short [72]. They simply sit there and watch television in the living room. We also see Loona in the office after Blitzo’s solo mission, but she is once again muted, just like in “Exes and Oohs” and “Western Energy” [62] [69]. Loona and Emberlynn’s parents did not add much significance to the plot and premise, but another unseen client was the cause of it [72], so I hope that a future Helluva Short can be a big highlight of another side character in any ring of Hell.

Toxic fanbrats never learn, do they? Excuse my bluntness. [72]


Not only are Mr. and Mrs. Pinkle the “unsupportive parents” trope but the mum’s wish for her to eventually leave the house is a sign of her being toxic. There are young adults who still live with their parents since they cannot afford to live in a place of their own yet or they feel as if living on campus when they are students will not work out for them in real life after all. [72]


Let us expand on the writing of “Weeaboo-Boo” before I get sentenced by the ghost of Claude Frollo [107]. The stream of sexual deprivation from Emberlynn within her roleplaying is faithful to the raunchiness of the series, but it goes on for a little too long [72]. Well, from what I have experienced as a writer [138], pacing can be quite challenging to pull off. There has not been much action aside from the tension within Blitzo sneaking up on Emberlynn in “Weeaboo-Boo”, which is why the plot in “Mission: Antarctica” is a little more effective to me [71] [72]. No offence to Skye Henwood, the co-writer of “Weeaboo-Boo”. At least I like most of the humour in the third short better as there is one joke that got me tittering, which is when the music stops as Blitzo dully says “Thanks” after Emberlynn surrenders her pendant so dramatically. I understand Adam Neylan, the main writer of the minisode and the previous one aimed to keep them faithful to what made the pilot of the series acclaimed and I deeply appreciate that [72] [140] [141], but some of us would still hope that a few shorts would give a few side characters a chance to grow, which worked for Sally Mae in the first one, thanks to her voice actress [70] [135] [136]. At least there have not been any controversies regarding some naughty killer penguins and the short was announced before its release date [12] [40] [47], unlike the previous one [10]. 

The penguins from the Madagascar franchise ought to teach the killer penguins from the previous minisode to stop being naughty [55] [71] [140] [141]. Surely, Stolas from either the “Prime” universe or the “Premium" universe would have more than just a word with them in the Pride Ring of Hell [81}. And speaking of prejudiced animals, a certain cutscene in the multiplayer mode of Conker’s Bad Fur Day was removed due to its unnerving references to the time Adolf Hitler dictated Germany during World War II [106]. Too bad the Alfred Alfer series did not take a hint and I doubt that Loona would get along well with the Alfster…unless some overdue character development occurs [19] [63] [66] [128] [129] [133] [134]. [71]

 Once again, the animation is encased in the pre-Toon City essences we all know and love [72]. You may have noticed that each short has its own unique logo that is designed depending on the premise [100] [135] [136] [140] [141], which is a plus for me. The palette of Emberlynn’s bedroom is quite like something you would see in a nerdy fangirl Barbie’s dreamhouse [139], but I doubt that it would consist of merchandise based on tentacle hentai and such and the outside of the family house reminds me of the outside of that other family house in “Murder Family” [65] [72]. There is also a reference to the infamous bootleg Charlie plush on one of Emberlynn’s shelves [14], which makes some of us imagine her meeting Miss Morningstar in the Pride Ring of Hell [72] [126] [127]. Due to the animation remaining expressive, there are some priceless expressions, including Blitzo’s as he activates the portal with the Asmodean Crystal (possibly while thinking of dirty scenarios with Stolas) after he kills his new admirer [72] [140] [141]. Aside from the animation and backgrounds remaining exceptional in Helluva Shorts, you do not suppose Charlie can wear a black uniform with a red bow tie at some point in the second season of Hazbin Hotel for some old fans’ time’s sake [8], no? More importantly, the new rooms for guests at the reconstructed hotel and the television sets they may have may hopefully be considered…well, not bullsh** [91] [92] [93].

Not as passionately pink as the Sloth Ring and possibly a Barbie movie created by Illumination [69] [139], but still screams “Monster hentai fangirl!” [72]. Can you spot any Zoophobia references as we pretty much enjoy pointing out Easter eggs [13]? We are still yearning to see what the Envy Ring will be like [2]. [72]


And yes, as always, the credits are stylised, depending on the episode. [72]
 
Wait! Keep reading and scrolling! The review is not over yet! Stolas of the Ars Goetia was absent in “Mission: Antarctica” for possibly another teatime at the Richest Cup [69], hanging out with Marshmallow from Marshmallow & Pancake [80] [82] [83], building the Hollywood Sign in Minecraft…or something even better [84] [104]. Thank Satan his highness is absent in “Weeaboo-Boo” for a reason that has not aged well but still [61] [67] [72] [74]! It looks like his Season One self and Emberlynn have some competition for Blitzy’s affection [63] [65] [68], but again, her love for Blitzy-Kun makes the prince’s raunchy phone call from “Murder Family” look like the realistic portrayal of Fizzarolli’s relationship with Asmodeus [64]. Team M&M are also absent from the events of “Weeaboo-Boo” as they are off duty to watch some musical, much to their boss’s disinterest [72]. I can imagine Moxxie feeling uncomfortable with Emberlynn’s mannerisms that let her obsession with demonic fantasies distort her common sense if he came along [62]. I still hope that at least one minisode of Helluva Shorts still be centred on his highness [135] [136] [140] [141]. After all, I am his little ball of candyfloss [85]! I am also up for a short focused on Moxxie, even though he already has had plenty of depth and character progression throughout the series [9] [62] [65] [68]. I guess we will just have to wait and see what the fourth minisode will show us [41].

Will Stolas and Blitzo become an eclipse again [16]? Surely, Season One Stolas would turn Emberlynn into stone or scare the sh** out of her in his demon form for trying to have her way with the Blitzster [63] [65]. But what if…Stolas is not the only royal who had feelings for him but would be too rational to attend a party dedicated to hating him [112]? [67]
 
Aside from how I believe the next Helluva Short or two ought to be focused on a side character, such as Octavia [147], I am still hoping for at least one minisode to be a musical as the variety of songs throughout the two seasons is one of my favourite aspects of Helluva Boss [63] [64] [67] [68]. Yes, I know that concept would work better in a music video outside of the episodes and minisodes [73], but it would still be pretty cool to let at least one short be a musical for the sake of creativity and character growth. I still stand by how a variety of music genres in a musical series can appeal to a wide range of fans with different tastes in music [21] [22] [23] [24], yet certain genres ought to apply to new musical numbers performed by certain characters, such as Alastor in the second season of Hazbin Hotel [77] [126] [127]. Save the musical bias for later, Madame Blubbery [51]. As for you, fellow hazbeans, be sure to show some support for music producers who put their souls into original music based on Helluva Boss [36] [37] [38] [39]. Moreover, we can still hope that the series’ primary focus on Blitzo’s business can be balanced with depth for his fellow demons in Hell, especially throughout the next season [142] [143].

And speaking of how a second season can excel, could LEGO Pixar: Bricktoons earn a second season featuring Carl and Russell from Up and the loveable cast of the Toy Story franchise [6] [78] [97] [139]? As for the upcoming third season of Helluva Boss, I still see the potential of Stella ironically gaining a crush on him for his charm and manliness at some point, thus letting her bloom from the “evil b**ch” label [69] [113]. It would be so badass if she turned to be out skilled in screaming and growling like a death metal vocalist in a death metal number for her [20]! YAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!! [69]
 
In conclusion, I personally consider “Weeaboo-Boo” my second least favourite Helluva Short so far, despite a few good qualities I praise it for [72]. Oh well. At least I can hope that the fourth one will be quite a step up from the second and third instalments [41]. Speaking of the third instalment, Disney devotees have their hopes for the best possible outcomes of The Incredibles III and Frozen III in the second half of this decade [30] [34] [35] [86]. In the meantime, we shall see what the fourth minisode of Helluva Shorts brings before finding out how Satan’s portrayal in the episode he will debut in will differ from Lucifer’s in Hazbin Hotel [114] [126] [127], along with how Blitzo and Millie’s ghost-hunting quest will possibly delve into how they first met and a possession that seems like a rehash of the hallucinations in “Truth Seekers” in terms of depth underneath a layer of comedy [68] [111] [142] [143]. Speaking of Hazbin Hotel, there is some speculation Baxter will be Niffty’s love interest and we are either quite starstruck at new YouTooz figures based on Alastor, Charlie and Angel Dust…or disappointed in one of them [15] [48] [115] [145] [146]. As for its sister series, I shall remain hopeful for its third season [113]. Keep expressing your creativity, remember that you deserve compassion after going through a hard time and stay sinful [5]!

I may be a little concerned about how the announcement of Toy Story 5 just seems like the confirmation of a saga being milked to keep pandering to those who still consider Toy Story 3 the GOAT to this day and those who were saddened by the ending of Toy Story 4 [79] [86] [116] [117], but I still see some potential to make up for some vague issues some of us have with the fourth film and the same could possibly apply to the second season of Hazbin Hotel. [72]


Am I the only one who thinks there ought to be an official crossover between Helluva Boss and Cult of the Lamb someday [57] [58]? That could give Emberlynn some new ideas for her next fanfiction [72]. But more importantly, the second wave of Youtooz figures based on Hazbin Hotel ought to be quite a step up featuring Vaggie, Husk, Cherri Bomb and perhaps a neon version of Alastor [15] [48] [145] [146]. Aside from our efforts to break a certain cycle [31] [76], be sure to show some love and support for my fellow reviewers and the dedication they put into their own blogs and be sure to show some admiration for all the cosplayers thinking outside the box [17] [45] [54] [56], as well as fanmade creations and guilds for a great purpose [3] [4] [118].
