Hopes For Shrek 5 – Hoping All Orge Again

Disclaimer:
This is an article that features a spoiler from Puss In Boots: The Last Wish as a reliable source of a future instalment’s development being confirmed. Feel free to avoid reading it if you are still planning to avoid spoilers if you have not yet watched the film.

Over four years ago, we have discussed what we ought to expect if DreamWorks decides to reboot the Shrek franchise [67] [68]. However, such a concept has not been brought into action…yet [43], most likely due to the scorching heat of development hell at DreamWorks Animation LLC [62]. To make up for a similar phase during its production, the critical reception of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish has been outstanding with its praise regarding the remarkably upgraded animation and deep new character development for the smooth-talking gato [4] [8] [62]. Do not get me wrong. The idea of a fifth Shrek film still sounds unnecessary, considering the plot of Shrek Forever After seemed like a true send-off [9] [36], along with a certain disturbingly bizarre meme three years later [25]. However, a sudden sequel could lead to some new aspects of a fictional universe that have not been discovered before, which could be preferred over a reboot [63] [67] [68]. Besides, Shrek, Fiona and Donkey made an appearance in the new DreamWorks opening in notably updated animation [27]. As delighted as I was at Hatsune Miku’s collaboration with Kuromi near the Christmas break [16] [73], I am hopeful for the grand return of Shrek on the big screen leaving an inspirational impact after Puss in Boots’ last wish after such a chaotic year [6] [8] [9] [63].
Well, well, well. Shrek 5 has finally been confirmed [43] [63]. It is about time we establish an updated and hopefully more reliable equivalent of what we discussed in November 2018 [67] [68]. Trust me, I have been quite an analyser for over a lustrum [65] [66]. This is the part where you keep reading [34] [57]. For five minutes! Can you please read this article…FOR FIVE MINUTES [24] [35]?! Much obliged. [43]

Rumours about a fifth Shrek film being produced spread across social media from 2014 to 2018 [9] [43]. At the end of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, which was previously referred to as “Puss In Boots 2: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves” during its production [41] [67] [68], Puss mentions some old friends of his [41] [62], leading to the development being true [63]. As previously mentioned, a direct sequel to the supposed finale of the main film series would be preferred over a reimagining of the first film [67] [68], especially by those who do not want something that is not broken to get fixed [63]. Who knows? The first teaser trailer for a fifth Shrek movie might just be released this May [43], most notably featuring Shrek, Fiona and Donkey in the visuals of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish [8] [27] [56] [61]. Additionally, there ought to be the presence of a new character from a fairytale or nursery rhyme that has not been spoofed in the franchise before, perhaps along with signs of a scrapped idea for any of the previous films being rewritten for updated expectations [63]. But you know what Geri, the toy repairman said as he made Woody look brand new in Toy Story 2 [49] [54]. You cannot rush art. Furthermore, we ought to wait for the development hell to finally be extinguished [62] [63].
Put a fedora on Shrek’s head because a fifth film needs its soul saved from development damnation [28]. Pray to him every night before bed [25]? Ummmmm…okay? [57]
What could certain aspects of the plot of Shrek 5 be like in terms of trying something new without somewhat alienating the fanbase? Maybe Shrek’s parents can make an appearance in a flashback in Shrek 5 in convincing and expanded interpretations as they made an appearance in the musical adaption [14] [44] [45] [46]. As selfish and heartless as Sid’s family is in Ice Age: Continental Drift [10] [22], we would suspect that Shrek’s mother and father would still be quite problematic aspects of his past as we reflect on their toxic attitudes regarding their own grandchildren in the comic series [14] [44] [45] [46]. Donkey might as well have flashbacks of his own within some new character progression too [11] [63]. Maybe the witch who cursed Fiona and was only mentioned in the first film could finally make an appearance and confront her if a certain fan theory ought to finally be debunked [12] [34], leading to some new character exploration for the former princess of Far Far Away [63]. And speaking of theories being either proven or disproven, perhaps one of the fifth film’s antagonists could be Prince Charming’s father regarding the prime conflict [13]. Aside from the plot of Shrek 5 providing some effectiveness, it ought to be elevated by the outstanding quality of the animation from Puss In Boots: The Last Wish [8] [56] [61].
Theoretically, Shrek’s parents being toxic in the comic book issue they appeared would be to blame for Shrek’s eventual desire to be feared again in Shrek Forever After [14] [36] [44] [45] [46] [58]. Furthermore, they would also be partly blamed for his antisocial nature in the first film [14] [34]. For the fifth film, they could appear in flashbacks as Shrek reflects on his personal evolution. [44] [45]
Unlike the downgraded visuals of The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild [7], the animation in Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is a remarkable step up [8] [56] [61]. As long as the budget for it is there, it ought to dazzle once again for a revival of the main Shrek series. [61]

What other new aspects could be established in Shrek 5 when it comes to expanding on the twisted world of fairytales and nursery rhymes once again? New supporting characters without any of their roles seeming tacked on? Perhaps there could be a genuinely good witch like Glinda from The Wizard Of Oz [53], but with a more notably witty personality, along with the bizarre interpretations of characters from Alice In Wonderland from the musical [1] [2] [40] [46] [48]. Again, there ought to not be any corny references to tropes and trends in real life, such as parodies of social media and the term “hashtag’ as those would decrease the imaginativeness of the Shrek universe to an extent [67] [68], even though Puss seems quite good at ASMR [61]. Lastly, why not let Shrek and Fiona recite the romantic dialogues of their counterparts from the children’s book by William Steig the first film was loosely based on for old times’ sake [30] [42] [52]? Perhaps that would occur during their anniversary. What is fresh and familiar for brorges to behold is ultimately in experienced hands at DreamWorks Animation LLC [43], yet there will be hope that the main Shrek franchise will not seem like such a desperate attempt at regaining relevancy, especially after the run of Swamp Talk from 2015 to 2016 [47].
Another potentially good idea for the story in Shrek 5 would be the return of Arthur Pendragon from Shrek The Third [37], which would allow him to gain some further character progression, along with more memorability and likeability on possibly a new quest with Shrek, Puss and Donkey [63]. Oh! And I am terribly sorry, but I think James Arnold Taylor ought to voice him instead [3] [50]. [38]
Maybe Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s triplets could be aged up a little in Shrek 5, possibly providing some small character development beyond their infancies [36] [37]. [39]

The Shrek franchise may be iconic, but it has never been immune to criticism. Quite unfortunately, the musical adaption of the first Shrek film is not every fan’s Happily Ever After potion for various reasons [5] [15] [32] [35]. Reflecting on the less positive reception of Shrek The Third [33], I thought the way Puss and Donkey’s bodies were swapped as Merlin cast his teleportation spell was quite unnecessary and hardly provided effectiveness in terms of storytelling [37]. The same problem applies to Buck Wild caring for a pumpkin as if it were a baby in Ice Age: Collision Course [21]. I still remember my fiancé expressing his disapproval of Shrek’s moodiness and selfish reflection on the times before his marriage after his outburst at his children’s birthday party in Shrek Forever After [36] [58] [67] [68]. Hopefully, the fifth Shrek movie will not make the same mistakes Ice Age: Collision Course made, such as having too many comic reliefs in one story [10] [21]. As important it would also be to not recycle too many elements from the previous films, which is the mistake I believe that Dumb And Dumber To made [18] [19] [71], it would be quite imperative to ensure completely new ones would not only be consistent but undeniably effective [63].
I am up for Shrek being his usual cynical self in a fifth film, but not to the point where he once again disregards what he must be grateful for [36] [58]. Remember when Woody knew not to make a certain mistake again in Toy Story 4 [55]? There also could be a reduced amount of pop culture references, along with arguably better humour for a fifth film to not seem like a somewhat rehash of Shrek The Third [33] [37]. [58]
At least the musical is not as lame as throwing a coin in the well, according to Arthur Pendragon [3]. Anyone up for pizza later [26]? [46]
In conclusion, the development of a “Shrek 5” film could eventually evolve by the name of “Shrek the Fifth” or some other fitting title in honour of bringing our unlikely green hero back on the big screen after the success of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish [8] [9]. Sometimes, it may be best to bring a beloved franchise back to its roots in the best way possible as the execution of a new idea might make you want to scream and rip your hair out [31]. Furthermore, the fifth Shrek movie could elevate DreamWorks’ current success even further with those nostalgic early and mid-2000s vibes [8] [34] [35] [60]. On the other green hand, somebody could want to make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin and make the orge’s return disappear from existence [36] [67] [68]. In the meantime, as we follow our passions and spread kindness [20] [23], we ought to look forward to new enlightenments in the new year [64], such as a new look for Rochelle Goyle from the Monster High franchise this Spring [28], The Super Mario Bros. Movie this April and a remake of Lollipop Chainsaw at some point [17] [69] [70] [72]. As unnecessary as a fifth chapter sounds after the success of Shrek Forever After nearly thirteen years ago [36], perhaps the timeline would not need to be rewritten after all [63] [67] [68].
Could new glitter be gold? Shrek could be a star, back and bold [51]! [59]
