What If Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends Was Revived?

Surely, there is a time when an animated series needs to end before it goes stale like uneaten bread, but a sudden revival for a new generation can make up for missed opportunities, such as undiscovered character development and how badly for the outcome for a promising premise of an episode was. As a 2000s kid, I strongly believe that this can apply to Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, a cartoon series created by Craig McCracken [43]. The cartoon was known for its highly fascinating premise and an amazingly large variety of differently designed and portrayed characters known as “imaginary friends”. As a child, I was infatuated with the show. It was acclaimed for its creativity, vibrant cartoon art style, most of its humour and several references to The Powerpuff Girls, which deserves a much better animated reboot. To brighten things up later this decade, I would strongly suggest bringing back the series with notable familiarities, as well as a few enhancing changes, despite the introduction being reversed at the end of the series’ finale indicating otherwise. It worked for iCarly, right [66] [67]? Moreover, let us get imaginative and imagine what a revival of the series would be like.
I am here to further prove that my blogging, especially my cartoon blogging will remain more than just “Helluva Boss” this and “Helluva Boss” that these days [89] [90]. Perhaps there can be more lovely colour palettes for new title screens for a revival of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, such as this one. [45]

The first episode of the show aired back in mid-2004 and the last one aired in 2009 [43]. Would there need to be new standards for a revival of the show at some point in the rest of the 2020s, even if its sole purpose is to bring back memories for us 2000s kids? Well, perhaps a little political correctness can occur without overdoing it to a degree. If that bratty little lass from the first episode called Wilt a “broken beanpole” on television nowadays, she could be called out for ableism [29]. I would not mind any use of today’s technology in the revival too much, but to an extent, that might cause a slight continuity error due to the use of 2000s technology in the original series that is rather rare in today’s times. Oh! And please do NOT make any new episodes set in a pandemic with characters wearing face masks! I know that could still set up an important example in the future, but we do not need more of the weight we had on our shoulders in 2020! There may be new aspects that are more in need of taking into consideration besides catching up with today’s standards.
Even though I quite enjoy being a Mac user in early 2022, I still miss using Windows XP and Windows 7. Moreover, I am always up for a fresh new adaption of something nostalgic, quite like the brand new option to race as a customised Mii in Mario Kart Tour [64] [65]. [14]
The revival can always be set in the future with Mac all grown up when it would make sense for him to use a smartphone, but then again, that would be better off in a new series finale to prevent it from possibly jumping the shark. Aside from that, we have only just started discussing how exceptional a revival of the series can be. Let us continue. [28]

I am aware that the series has shown Bloo to be unlikeable at times [31] [81], specifically in the second season and so on. Nonetheless, giving a character highly notably flaws heavily prevents the “Gary-Stu” label from being tagged onto a character. But still, what exactly did Berry, the little yandere who was not all sweet see in him [6] [13] [68]?! Perhaps there can be some brand new exploration for him in a revival of the series, such as a flashback of when he was imagined by a three-year-old Mac and developing a sincere crush on a new imaginary friend. Maybe said crush can be a pale pink version of him. Also, there can be another cute moment of him with his other bestest buddy, who was the cute brown puppy who was fluent in human speech [61]. Perhaps the little man can also speak Japanese to the Japanese version of Bloo from “Bus The Two Of Us” [44]? To help the main Bloo maintain his likeability in a brand new season, his overall personality ought to remain more like how it was throughout the majority of the first one. Oh, and please make him more respectable to European folks, including young British women like me [63]. Much obliged.
Bloo does not have to be a little blue angel to be likeable as some humour and conflict ought to still be around in his presence [5] [12], but he ought to be less manipulative and self-centred to avoid affecting the quality of the revival. He has never been as horrible as Ren from Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon [81], but still. Besides, I sure do not want to be the kind of journalist he was in “Bloo Done It”. [61]

There were three other imaginary friends Bloo befriended when he moved to Foster’s. Wilt was one of my favourite characters in the original series due to his selflessness and how he can be overly apologetic. Bless him. Could he be a part-time basketball instructor in the house within an opportunity to develop him a little further? Eduardo was such an admirable amigo who may have been scared a lot of times but still had a big heart. I know this is technically recycling an already established scenario, but perhaps he can find a lost kitten, similar to how he found a puppy, named him “Burrito” and then later renamed him “Chewy” in “Who Let The Dogs In?” [58]. Who does not love kittens? What can I say about Coco? There can be some explanation for her fear of flying that was revealed in “Foster’s Goes To Europe” in a new episode, leading to some further character development that can be quite remarkable [42] [63]. Would she still be in love with a lamp? She can also expand on her hobby in singing and dancing that was seen on Cartoon Network outside of the original series back in the day [20]. It will be great to see the whole gang on television again someday.

Looks like Elmo from Sesame Street became much more apologetic as he grew up to get a nose job before becoming a professional basketball player [76]. [61]
Can you imagine this amigo winning an arm wrestle against Bowser from the Super Mario series [64]? I am up for a new episode of him being challenged to an arm wrestling tournament. Other than that, he can speak Spanish more fluently at some point in a revival of the series [19]. [29]

Imaginary friends are indeed created by young minds. Mac was such a good kid. Intelligent and confrontational to Bloo at certain times, he deserved better than what happened to him in some episodes, which will be explained later. Goo was such a brilliant character due to her excessive speech and quirkiness [93]. I especially loved the episode when she and the others pretended to be alter-egos [21] [50]. Louise, Mac’s neighbour was adorable and there can be an episode centred on her life at home with Cheese [49]. Surely, the majority of teenage boys in the original show came up with the most grotesque imaginary friends, according to Wilt yet Terrance, Mac’s tyrannical older brother imagined Red who was just a tough yet naive version of Bloo [16]. Not much has been known about Mac and Terrance’s father in the original, so I guess there can be some references to what he is like in the revival. I just hope Mac’s teacher at the school he attends will not lock imaginary friends in a closet anymore because, you know, the risk of the school being charged for abuse. There is hope that there will be good kids like Mac and Goo for imaginary friends who want to live in good new homes.
How about a sequel to this particular adventure with new alter-egos of new allies, such as identities for Cheese and Louise [50]? [21]

Any more development for other supporting characters in a revival of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends? How about some imaginary kittens to make up for how terrified Mr. Herriman was in “Who Let The Dogs In?” [58], which can be quite therapeutic for him? I would love to see some new comedic moments with Cheese, another one of my favourite characters [25]. He was utterly hilarious in his episodes [86]! A new episode centred around him can feature some explanation for why Mac lied about creating him in “Mac Daddy” before it was revealed that Louise was his true creator all along as that was never explained in that episode at all [49]. Duchess may not be a very nice lady, but another episode can provide some backstory on why she is grouchy and fussy to everyone in the house [9] [39]. It worked for Cruella De Vil in the live-action prequel and soft reboot of 101 Dalmatians starring Emma Stone as her, right [23]? Perhaps there can be a little more development for Red who can be referred to as “Señor Rojo” by Eduardo [16]. Who knows? He can be adopted by a teenage boy with a bigger heart. There are so many possibilities for great new episodes.
Cheese likes chocolate milk!!! [35]
Perhaps Mr. Herriman can find his potential “Mrs. Herriman”, but without making the story…well…too cliched [10]. Perhaps they can bake a cake together [59]? But not a carrot cake [38]! How about another song from Pizza Party too [15][54]? Send Funny Bunny to sweet 2000s kids [18]! [27]

A revival can lead to a great opportunity to further develop the more obscure imaginary friends. Despite the criticism of her portrayal in “Foster’s Goes To Europe” [42], I think Eurotrish can earn a more respectable role as a singer on stage at Foster’s in a new episode as her character consists of toned down European stereotyping, leading to her eventually being adopted by a kinder European family who admires her singing [42] [63]. But before that, she can be great friends with Nancy, Eduardo’s literal pen pal who speaks in a British accent [53]. I would also like to see Crackers have her own episode because she is so adorable [37]! She deserves more development than just crying from being rejected from an adoption. Perhaps Peas can sneak into the forbidden room where the population of imaginary fleas has rapidly multiplied and go on a tour through every big plop of fur [17] [25] [48]. How about an episode centred on Prince Charming [55]? Come on, he was such a dreamboat! Ummm…not the one from Shrek 2 [77]! Perhaps Chick Cluckers from Season Two’s premiere can find true love [52]? How about a few completely new characters to expand on the show’s theme of being imaginative? There would be a lot of ideas within the production of a revival.
It was a huge missed opportunity to make the Powerpuff Girls’ imaginary friend from the episode “Imaginary Friend” appear in an episode of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends since both cartoons were created by Craig McCracken [71] [91] [92]. [70]
A pretty imaginary princess friend who is quite like Princess Liana Rose would make Duchess pretty jealous [73] [74]. Perhaps there can also be a motherly imaginary friend who was imagined by an orphan at an orphanage to give the revival further credibility for providing even more diversity, but without going too much into detail that will affect the appeal for the target audience. [9]

Perhaps a revival of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends can expand on the diversity of the human characters. Since Stevie from “Sight For Sore Eyes” is blind [57], there can perhaps be a deaf kid who has an imaginary friend who is skilled in ASL (American Sign Language), just like Quill from Moss [1]. It would be interesting to see more of the Foster family, such as Frankie’s parents as it can provide some more backstory of how the business of caring for homeless imaginary friends became a success. What was Madame Foster’s husband like before he either passed away or divorced her at some point? Wait a minute! Could Old Man Rivers have been her ex-husband all along [51]? In spite of Frankie’s diligence and independence, she deserves a new love interest who will most certainly never threaten her friends after all she went through in the original series. Could she have a sibling who works outside of Foster’s and may eventually decide to work there? A brand new series would lead to a big opportunity to develop brand new characters that serve great purposes that were never served in the original series, along with further exploration for already established characters that never received much of it.
Frankie has been through enough in the original series. I would so want her to find a new boyfriend in a revival. She and Mr. Herriman had some great character development in “Setting A President” and there may be more in the revival [56]. [19]

Aside from bringing the rather memorable art style of the original series if possible, the great writing must also return with new, original stories to tell. Consistency is a must as there were various contradictions in the Dexter’s Laboratory series when comparing the first and second seasons with the third and fourth ones [79]. Seriously, Dexter found using a potato as a source of power hilarious in the revival from Cartoon Network Studios yet he did that once in the original series from Hanna Barbera [24] [79]. The same problem applied to The Powerpuff Girls. Is Bubbles really a vegetarian or not [69]? The writing of the episode “Crime After Crime” from the third season of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends was outstanding and highly impressive because of how it ambitiously fused a number of running gags into one engaging plot [38]. “Bloo’s Brothers” nailed the premise of what would happen if many children were heavily inspired to imagine their own versions of Bloo [33]. And who knows? The finale of the revival can be much more satisfying than the finale of the original series, even if it will only last for one or two seasons [80] [85]. Besides, it ought to be more about the quality than the quantity.

Believe it or not, I once shipped Eurotrish with Wilt when I was younger. Perhaps there can be romantic relationships in the house in a revival of the show, especially in a Valentine’s Day-themed episode, hopefully without featuring Berry in spite of how interestingly her character was portrayed in “Berry Scary” [6] [13] [68]. If there ought to be another horror-themed episode [8], the crew better not order a Sonic.exe-themed Happy Meal [62]. [13]
As previously stated, the finale of the revival can establish a “What If…?” scenario featuring Mac as an adult but still in touch with Bloo…who could be adopted by a kid of his own. His older brother would hopefully be serving time in prison. [8]

Despite the show’s positive reception, some episodes were heavily criticised by fans for their mean-spiritedness and such [63]. Madame Foster’s mischievous nature was quite out of character in “Foster’s Goes To Europe”, especially in the ending [42]. Additionally, that episode’s premise ended up being misleading as an example of irony done the wrong way. Speaking of mischievousness, please do NOT…and I repeat do NOT repeat the deadly cycle of the foul-spiritedness from “Everyone Knows It’s Bendy” [22] [41]. [75]. And please do not get me started with “Imposter’s Home For Um…Make ‘Em Up Pals” [47]! “Bye Bye Nerdy” also sucked because of how nothing was done about the bullying Mac got for just trying to be “not nerdy” after being shamed and labelled by Bloo, along with Mr. Herriman being unreasonably out of character [34]. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being intelligent with specific traits. Another episode that was very unfair to Mac was “I Only Have A Surprise For You” [46]. “Beat with a Schtick” was pretty much a metaphor for the cancel culture of today [30] [86]. It would be strongly recommended that there will be no episodes within a revival season that repeat those big mistakes for the best critical reception possible.
Behold! False advertising! You know, the revival could be even better with not much mean-spiritedness in new episodes [63], kind of similar to the new Barbie Cutie Reveal Doll line was to make up for the criticism the Colour Reveal dolls received [2]. [42]

In a hopeful conclusion, I am not saying that a revival of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends will definitely happen, but if such an idea were to be brought into action, let us not make similar mistakes that were made by the reboot of the Powerpuff Girls that began airing in 2016, along with the Danced Pantsed special that aired back in 2014 [11] [91] [92]. Furthermore, some new character developments in a great reimagining should be provided whilst the effort to not bring back the frustrating mean-spiritedness of the least acclaimed episodes of the original series is valued. Speaking of reimaginings, I suppose J.K. Rowling might as well begin to write a series of “What If…?” scenarios in a non-canon addition to the Harry Potter series, such as Harry ending up in Slytherin instead of Gryffindor and him marrying Hermione Granger in the future instead of Ginny Weasley [26] [87]. It worked for Disney, right [3] [4] [81]? What would you expect in a revival of Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends? I can hear that catchy theme tune as I conclude this conclusion. Stay imaginative, imaginators! No reference to the Skylanders series intended [84]. Oh, and Cheese, you do not live here! Please go home [25]!
“Okay.” [25]
Anyway, do you agree that Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends ought to be brought up for a new audience? Either way, let your imagination run wild, no matter how old you are! I sure did with a new fanfiction of mine [88]! [61]
